3 GRAD TRIPS Each year, private companies that organize Grad Trips distribute forms to students to promote high school Grad Trips. The wording of these promotional materials and letters is designed to sound as though the trip is being organized by the school. Please note that the administration and staff of Unionville High School has not organized nor does it sanction any Graduation related trips. Trips organized in celebration of Graduation or Prom, including all transportation arrangements, have been externally organized. School staff has not been involved in the planning and will not be supervising or participating in these events. These events are not sanctioned by the school and no staff have been involved in the planning of them. If you have any questions, please contact one of the Vice Principals. DRESS CODE As the weather gets warmer we would like to remind all students and parents that students will be asked to change or may be sent home to change their clothing if they are not dressed appropriately. The following information comes from the student agenda book. The York Region District School Board believes that school is a place of learning and, to be successful, students must focus their attention and energy on school related matters. For this reason, it is important that students dress appropriately for the task of learning. Clothing which demonstrates respect for self and others is expected at all times. Appropriate dress is in effect while at school, on field trips, and during any other school related activities or events. For example: a) Language or graphics on clothing will not display provocative, obscene, sexist or racist slogans, or refer to drugs, alcohol, smoking or sex. Clothing which contravenes the Human Rights Code in any way is unacceptable. b) Students will not wear clothing to school that is revealing or provocative. Midriffs and undergarments will remain covered at all times and shorts will be mid thigh in length. Tube tops, halter tops, and other tops with narrow shoulder straps or spaghetti straps are unacceptable. c) Clothing and accessories/paraphernalia depicting violence or death or that identify or promote cults or gangs are unacceptable. d) For obvious safety reasons, shoes must be worn at all times. EXAM SCHEDULE Grade 12 exams will begin Monday, June 17 and Tuesday, June 18. Please note that all Grade 9, 10 and 11 students are expected to attend their regular classes on these two days. The remainder of exams will be held during the regular exam period (June 19 25). Student are reminded, as stated in our school policy, that there are no early leaves during examination week. Students must schedule vacations, camp activities, etc. outside of the examination period. Everyone must write his or her exams on the scheduled date. The exam schedule will be distributed to students, and posted on the UHS website, by the end of next week. 3

4 ART SHOW There will be a Grade 12 Arts Unionville Visual Arts Grad exhibition at the Markham Theatre from April 29 to May 27. SPRING CELEBRATION 2013 The Unionville High School Music Department presents Spring Celebration 2013 on May 13 & 14 at 7:30pm at the Flato Markham Theatre. Tickets can be purchased from any music student or at the Theatre door prior to the shows. DANCE HIGHLIGHTS The UHS Dance Department would like to invite you to our annual year end production at the Markham Theatre on Thursday, May 16th at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $15 (if purchased before May 10) and $20 at the Theatre Box Office. This highly entertaining show includes ballet, modern, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and theatre dance, with choreography by staff, students and guest artists performed by our talented dancers. We hope that you will join us for this performance! 5 UHS PROM IS JUST 3 WEEKS AWAY! JUNE 6 th, 2013 This week, on Wednesday May 15 th during period 4, all grade 12 students will attend a mandatory Prom Assembly to review expectations regarding this year s Prom. York Regional Police will also attend this assembly to share Safe Prom messages with our students. Prom Tickets will be on sale outside of the main office from May 21 st to May 28 th during periods 1 & 5. Tickets will only be sold to students who submit a signed Student/ Parent / Guardian Acknowledgement Form (available after the assembly). Tickets prices are as follows: $ for UHS students with a RED student activity card $ for UHS students with a WHITE student activity card $ for Guests REFUNDS Partial refunds are available for students who were on the Tennis, Curling, Swim & Basketball teams. Students should see Mrs. Whitehead in the Main Office as soon as possible to pick up their refund cheques. Any DECA members who have returned their jacket should also see Mrs. Whitehead in the Main Office to pick up their security deposit. GRADUATING STUDENTS Please visit the main office to verify the correct spelling of your name and to check your photo on the grad composite before Wednesday, May 15th. 5
