10 Practical information: Nice, the Capital of the French Riviera is a lively city, with its carnival and cultural events running all year round. It is worth taking the time to discover Nice in depth: wander at random through the narrow streets of the old town and then stroll along the famous "Promenade" before entering into the heart of the city with its rich architectural and cultural heritage and its parks and gardens. Nice has a total of 19 museums and galleries, 32 classified historical monuments. Sundays and public holidays are the usual closing days, although there are some exceptions... Museums and Monuments Museums open at 9 or 10am and close between 5 and 6pm. Usual closing days are Monday or Tuesday. On public holidays in particular, 1 January, 1 May and 25 December many museums and monuments are closed. Post offices, banks, offices and public services Most post offices are open from 8am to 7pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to midday on Saturday. They are closed on public holidays. Banks are generally open from 9am to 5pm, from Monday to Friday or from Tuesday to Saturday. Some branches may close over lunchtime, usually between 12.30pm and 2pm. For cash withdrawals, automatic cash points (ATMs) operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Banks are closed on public holidays. As a rule, offices are open between 9am and 6pm. Public services generally close at 4.30pm or 5pm (or earlier on Friday afternoons). They are closed at lunchtime and on public holidays. 11 All towns of the Riviera and of the hinterland are easily reached either by train or bus. (For instance there are trains every half hour to Cannes, Monaco.) Taxis CENTRAL TAXI RIVIERA Phone: 33 (0) Standard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week Electricity In France the norm is 220 volts, with a frequency of 50 Hz, while in the United States or Canada, for example, it is 110 volts for 60 Hz. Voltage and sockets vary from country to country and so an adapter and also a transformer will be necessary Make sure you bring these with you. If you ve forgotten to bring these important accessories, you ll be able to find them in electrical goods and DIY stores or hypermarkets. For information, French plugs are equipped with two round pins The school Our school is in the centre of town, 15 min away from the beach and the old town, 5 min away from the train station. There are 17 classrooms, all air conditioned. Our school has a media centre in self access with a few computers with Internet and a lounge room with cold drinks and snacks machines. Students will also learn origins and anecdotes about French cuisine. Classes take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, in a chef apartment-cuisine. Courses of French cuisine (8 lessons / week divided into 2 half-days where complete menus are prepared and tasted) are added to a regular 20 lessons course.
