English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the official language in a large number of countries. It is estimated that the number of people in the world that use English to communicate or are studying it on a regular basis is 2 billion!! English is the dominant business language and it has become almost a necessity for people to speak English if they are to enter a global workforce, research from all over the world shows that cross-border business communication is most often conducted in English. Its importance in the global market place therefore cannot be understated, learning English really can change your life. Therefore by learning English you will have access to a great wealth of entertainment and will be able to have a greater cultural understanding. So knowing English will allow you access to an incredible amount of information which may not be otherwise available! It can get very confusing and even native speakers sometimes struggle with all the grammar rules, crazy vocabulary and sayings. 10 The aim of EAL To make sure that your children can take part fully in all classes and succeed to the best of their abilities. Mục đích của EAL Trang bị kiến thức để học sinh tự tin trong các tiết học và tạo cơ hội để các em phát huy hết khả năng để đạt nhiều thành công hơn.
11 EAL Teachers There are four specialist EAL teachers in the school. Miss Mel will teach Year 1 to Year 3 EAL and Year 3 and 4 EIP Ms Emma will teach Years 7-9 EAL Mr Alastair will teach Year 4 and 5 EAL and Year 5 and 6 EIP Miss Sara will teach Year 1 and 2 EAL. 12 How EAL works at the ABCIS EAL provision is available from Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 3. In Key Stage 1 and 2, EAL lessons run alongside, as well as in addition to English lessons. English Immersion runs from Year 3-6. In Key Stage 3, EAL lessons run outside of English, Maths and Science lessons. EAL được giảng dạy tại ABCIS như thế nào? Chương trình EAL được giảng dạy từ Key Stage 1 đến Key Stage 3. Ở Key Stage 1 và 2, các tiết học EAL được giảng dạy song song với các tiết học khác cũng như những tiết học Đọc Viết. 14 How long do students stay in EAL? Học sinh học EAL trong bao lâu? Students attendance to EAL classes should be no longer than two years. Most students do not need to stay in that long. All students progress is reviewed by Heads of Year and the EAL Department on a termly basis. Ho c sinh tham gia EAL không qua hai năm. 15 Early Years Year 1- Year2 Support available in both whole class and small targeted specialist classes Areas targeted include: Speaking, Listening, Reading (phonics) and Writing. Learning all these skills will assist children to develop their English vocabulary. 17 Secondary Year 7 to Year 9 EAL support is available in from Year 7 to Year 9 Support available in both whole class and small targeted specialist classes. Areas targeted include: grammar, academic writing skills, increasing vocabulary and reading/writing skills. Takes place outside of English, Math and Science lessons focusing on grammar and language skills. Number of support lessons increased for those with most need. 18 English Immersion Programme Tiê ng Anh hô trơ đă c biê t The programme is aimed at students who already have a certain level of English, but who may not have enough to pass our entrance levels for mainstream admission. Chương tri nh da nh cho ho c sinh co câ p đô tiê ng Anh cơ ba n nhưng so vơ i mă t bă ng chung, ca c em chưa thê theo ki p ca c tiê t ho c chi nh thư c. This specifically devised programme allows children to improve their English Language skills whilst being immersed in an International School environment. The programme allows a combination of separate and targeted, intensive English language lessons alongside participation in mainstream class activities with their peers. 21 English Immersion Programme Tiê ng Anh hô trơ đă c biê t How long do students stay in the EIP CLASS? Học sinh phải tham gia lớp EIP trong bao lâu? The educational progress of each student in the EIP class is reviewed on a termly basis by the EAL Department and the Heads of Year. If it is felt that a student has made sufficient progress in their English language skills to allow them to access all areas of the curriculum in mainstream, then they may be taken out of EIP at that time and start full time in an appropriately aged class.
