3 Teaching Qualifications TKT all modules Teaching Knowledge Test Flexible assessment for language teachers

4 TKT is a test of teaching knowledge. Preparing for TKT can help you learn more about teaching English and increase your confidence as an English language teacher. A flexible, modular format TKT is divided into modules which are tested separately. You can take them all or as many as you need. There s total flexibility in how and when you take the modules you get a certificate for each one you complete. Core modules Module 1: Background to language teaching Tests your knowledge of the terms and concepts of English language teaching. It focuses on the factors underpinning the learning of English. Module 2: Planning for language teaching Focuses on the knowledge and skills you need to plan lessons. It also looks at assessment and resources that can guide your lesson planning. Module 3: Classroom management Tests your knowledge of what happens in the classroom during language learning, and the teacher s role in classroom management. Practical: Assessment of teaching competence Gives formal confirmation of your practical teaching competence.

5 Specialist modules TKT: Knowledge about Language Tests your knowledge and understanding of the systems of the English language from a teaching perspective. TKT: Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) Tests your understanding of teaching curriculum subjects through the medium of a second or third language. TKT: Young Learners Tests your knowledge of the strategies and skills required to teach young learners ideal if you re working in primary education. Download free support materials and sample papers at How are TKT modules assessed? For any of the modules except TKT: Practical, you take a single paper of 80 questions. It lasts 1 hour 20 minutes. For TKT: Practical, a Cambridge English assessor will observe your teaching. The assessment can take place as part of a teacher training course, or with your own class if you are already teaching. You will also complete a lesson plan for assessment.
