The programme will launch in January 2019, and we are seeking academic staff in each of the areas of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Accounting and Finance, and Project and Programme Management in order to complement our existing academic team. While the principal responsibilities will be delivery on the new MSc, there will be other delivery opportunities as appropriate. The appointments will be made on the University of Manchester s Teaching and Scholarship basis, with a typical workload split of 80% teaching and administration; and 20% scholarship activity.
2 Overall Purpose of the Job: To design and deliver innovative and high quality teaching across a range of Executive Education programmes, in particular, the new MSc Management Practice (Level 7 Senior Leaders programme) To contribute to business development activity with existing and potential clients To undertake scholarly activity aligned to the School s research interests and of relevance to Executive Education To work closely with academics in the AMBS Divisions to identify and develop potential deliverers of Executive Education Key Responsibilities, Accountabilities or Duties: Design and deliver a range of innovative and high quality teaching materials to Executive Education programmes and modules in a manner appropriate to adult learners, grounded in academic research and appropriate to a variety of audiences including international clients Contribute to the enhancement of teaching quality within Executive Education Advise the Business Development team on strategic issues such as client development and marketing, and to lead on the pedagogic content of responses to invitations to tender Work closely with academic and PSS colleagues on proposals for new open and bespoke research-led Executive Education Programmes, so as to ensure that, wherever possible, course content is informed by and showcases University of Manchester research insights Supporting this research-led strategy, network internally within the School, Faculty, and University to ensure that the appropriate research-based expertise is deployed in the design and delivery of executive education programmes To engage in Scholarly activity ie professional and pedagogic research to support teaching activities. Conduct individual and/or collaborative scholarly projects, including securing funding where appropriate and publishing the outputs of such scholarship where appropriate to do so Extend, transform and apply knowledge from Scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities, including producing learning materials and disseminating the findings of scholarly activity Engage with external clients to diagnose requirements and thereby ensure that educational content meets the needs of that client Contribute to a range of administrative tasks within the School/Centre e.g. course development, assessment exercises, examinations, recruitment, and management of resources Contribute to the internal and external accreditation of courses and quality control processes Contribute to other academic activities within the School as required, for example contribute to undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and student supervision
3 There will be a requirement to travel within the UK and internationally In addition to the above, Senior Lecturers will have the following Responsibilities: Design, develop and deliver a range of innovative programmes of study (sometimes for entirely new courses) at various levels including acting as Programme Director Provide academic leadership to those working within programme areas, as Programme Director or equivalent, and act as a personal mentor to peers and colleagues, particularly those new to executive education Ensure that course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University, School and clients Lead and develop links with external contacts and networks such as other educational bodies, employers, and professional bodies to foster collaboration Be Involved in public or business engagement activity relevant to Executive Education Contribute to the management of the Executive Education Centre In addition to the above, Professors will have the following Responsibilities, Contribute to the overall strategy for Executive Education programmes, determine the academic standards for the area, and encourage the development of innovative approaches to high quality teaching for adult learners Lead the development of executive education programmes for significant clients, maintaining effective relationships Design and deliver a range of innovative and high quality teaching materials to Executive Education programmes and modules in a manner appropriate to adult learners, grounded in high quality academic research and appropriate to a variety of audiences including international clients Ensure that course design and delivery comply with the quality standards and regulations of the University, School and clients To engage in a programme of Scholarly activity (i.e. professional and pedagogic research to support teaching activities), and to provide scholarly leadership within Executive Education, promoting a culture of research led teaching Provide academic leadership to those working within programme areas and act as a personal mentor to peers and colleagues Contribute to the strategy on Business Development issues such as client development and marketing Lead on the pedagogic content of responses to invitations to tender for significant clients and complex programmes, and participate in complex and important negotiations during tender processes Contribute to the internal and external accreditation of courses and quality control processes.
4 Extend, transform and apply knowledge from Scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities, including producing learning materials and disseminating the findings of scholarly activity Lead on relationships within the School, Faculty, and University to ensure that the appropriate expertise is deployed on executive education programmes, promoting the values of Executive Education, and fostering collaboration and interdisciplinary working Lead public or business engagement activity relevant to Executive Education, developing relationships with external contacts and networks such as other educational bodies, employers, and professional bodies to foster collaboration Contribute to a range of leadership tasks within the School/Centre e.g. strategy development, programme development, committee membership/chairing, assessment exercises, examinations, recruitment, and management of the Executive Education centre Contribute to other academic activities within the School as required, for example contribute to undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and student supervision There will be a requirement to travel within the UK and internationally PERSON SPECIFICATION Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A first degree or equivalent A completed PhD or professional doctorate (e.g. DBA) in a relevant subject or have completed the requirements for such a qualification prior to commencing employment OR substantial industry experience and standing to enable the individual to deliver credible and informed teaching (Recognized for instance by Companionship of the CMI, Fellow of CIPD or equivalent) Experience of teaching at university level 7 with adult learners and/or evidence of high quality presentational skills, demonstrating the ability to offer high quality and varied teaching in Executive Education Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop, in collaboration with relevant AMBS academic colleagues, teaching programmes and the provision of learning support Evidence of an ability to develop and maintain internal and external networks Evidence of ability to contribute to business development activity including input into bid and tender documents, and client presentations Ability to work successfully with a range of organisations across the public and private sector, both nationally and internationally Willingness to travel within UK and internationally for programme delivery
5 Desirable Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Qualifications: A record of effective setting and marking of assessment including provision of feedback For appointment to Senior Lecturer, in addition to the above essential requirements for a Lecturer, candidates must have: Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: A demonstrated record of teaching excellence, including external recognition as a teacher or scholar An in-depth understanding of own specialism to enable the development of new knowledge and understanding within the field. Demonstrable record of programme management and development Ability to provide effective leadership or programmes and to lead on relationships with external organisations A record of knowledge transfer and external engagement activities including development of networks with industry, professional bodies, participation in professional or practice based forums, etc Proven skills in coaching and developing others in delivering executive education Demonstrated ability and willingness to contribute to a wide range of administrative tasks at a strategic level within Executive Education Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience Evidence of successful scholarly activity (e.g. conference paper presentations, external funding secured, papers published in specialist research journals and/or practitioneroriented journals, writing practice manuals, publication of professional materials, teaching cases, and books, and the creation of intellectual property For appointment to Professor, in addition to the above essential requirements for a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer, candidates must have: Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Evidence of sustained scholarly activity e.g. conference paper presentations, external funding secured, papers in specialist research journals and practitioner-oriented journals, writing practice manuals, publication of professional materials, teaching cases, and books, major selling popular management books and the creation of intellectual property. A significant record of knowledge transfer and external engagement activities including development of networks with industry and professional bodies, consulting or advising relationships with other organisations, and influence on the formulation of policy and practice outside the university
