1 An enterprising mind-set for employability Advance HE Employability Symposium Tuesday 15 th May, 9am-5.15pm Advance HE, York Office, Heslington, YO10 5BR. For educators to fully support students in an ever-changing world, employability must be considered. With increasing numbers in the graduate labour market, graduates need to be able to compete - and let s not forget those who are considering self-employment as an alternative option. An enterprising mind-set can help develop a number of critical components to enable students to succeed. Not only are these components, once combined with subject-specific knowledge and technical skills, attractive to potential employers, they also act as the foundation for developing the student throughout their career. Advance HE s Embedding Employability in Higher Education Symposium: An enterprising mind-set for employability aims to bring together cutting-edge examples of effective practice that are sustainable and impact at programme, school, faculty, college and/or institutional level. By engaging in a process of effectively embedding employability throughout the student lifecycle, positive impacts can be expected in student learning, student satisfaction and improved core metrics. Aims of the symposium: Hosted at Advance HE in York, the one-day symposium will not only be of interest and relevance to the work of senior leaders and academic teaching staff, but also to those with a responsibility for shaping and supporting the wider university learning environment i.e. estates and library services, as well as Student Unions. The aims of the symposium are: to provide an open and supportive environment within which to share and discuss contemporary practice and initiatives in enterprise for employability; to begin to craft a principled and evidence-informed approach to devising subsequent support and guidance for change(s) with regards to enhancing enterprise for employability in higher education.
