Course Description: An orientation to the field of business: types of business organization, financing of businesses, marketing function, business environment. Statement of Prerequisites: None Goal: The goals of this course is to give students a general overview of the various areas of business, The knowledge required from this course can be useful in making career decisions and give the student insight into various areas of business. Outcomes: The student will have a general knowledge of the various aspects of business and its environments. Methodology: Class discussion, lecture, on line discussions, cases/projects, in class activities, and tests Evaluation Criteria: TESTS There will be four (4) tests over the textbook and lectures as shown on the attached assignment sheet. No make up exams will be given. No exams will be dropped. No deadlines will be extended. Each test is worth 150 points. Your tests will be taken online through the class Moodle site. The tests can consist of true false, multiple choice, and short answer type questions. CASES/PROJECTS There will be six (6) cases/projects to complete following the guidelines provided. Each case/project is worth 50 points. Please refer to information sheet provided. No makeups are allowed or deadlines extended. Your cases/projects when finished will be uploaded to their proper link in the class Moodle site.

2 DISCUSSIONS There will be five (5 online discussion postings required for this class they will be posted on our Moodle site. Each discussion is worth 20 points. No make ups will be allowed and no deadlines will be extended. ATTENDANCE If your attendance is sporadic I reserve the right to withdraw you from this course. GRADING Your final grade will be based on the percentage of total points you receive on tests, cases, and discussion questions. Tests: 150 points each Cases/Projects 50 points each Discussions 20 points each 1000 Total Points =A 80-89=B 70-79=C 60-69=D 59-0=F There will be no curving of final grades. You will receive the grades witch the calculations determine with no exceptions. A tenth of a point can separate one grade from another. In order to be fair to all students in this class, I cannot bend the rules for any individual, so please don t ask me to. It is my policy that grades will not be given over the phone. All spouses, parents, friends cannot request information on students grades. Your grades will be posted in the course site in the grade book section. If you have a question about your standing in this class please make an appointment with me to discuss your progress. There will be no extra credit for this course. There will be no adding of extra points to or curving of final grades. Required Text, Readings, Materials: Kelly.McGowan.Williams BUSN6. 3 Chain of Command: If you have any problems with this class, you should first contact the instructor in order to solve the problem. If you are not satisfied with the solution offered by the instructor, you should then take your problem through the appropriate chain of command starting with the department head/program director, the dean, and lastly the vice president for academic affairs.
