27 North Carolina s Next Generation Assessments * North Carolina is on track to achieve full online administration of assessments by The following time line outlines the steps that will take place each year to make this happen: : Stand alone field testing of new assessments (Math, Science, ELA) : Summative assessments aligned to CCSS (for ELA and Mathematics) and NC Essential Standards (for Science) will be administered operationally : Expected assessments operational from Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (shared between states) in ELA/Math 3 8 and one High School Assessment in ELA and Math (w/ Performance Tasks in 9 & 10)

35 Science Safety SBE Policy GCS-F-017, Science Laboratory Safety, requires development and implementation of a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) by each Local Agency (LEA). Plans are to be reviewed, updated, and submitted annually by January 31 st. See Resources on the Science Wiki

38 Drawing Straws Activity Divide your table into two groups. Decide if your group is going to focus on grades 6-8 or This activity will apply K-12. Send a representative from your group to get a set of cups with strips in them. The cups will be labeled Common Core Literacy Standards, Science & Engineering Practices, and NC Science Essential Standards Draw one strip from each cup and then

39 Drawing Straws (continued) Read each strip aloud and brainstorm a lesson (or series of lessons) that will integrate all three: NC Science Essential Standard Science & Engineering Principle Common Core Literacy Standard for Science & Technical Subjects Use the book Science Worksheets Don t Grow Dendrites as a reference to get ideas for the lesson.
