3 of art and design LMT50307 Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Technology Designed to provide the skills and knowledge required for independent work in the fashion design and garment construction industries, this nationally recognised qualification is the only one of its kind delivered entirely via distance education. It is suited both as an entry-level qualification in fashion design and as a useful source of skills for those seeking employment in advanced patternmaking. Among other skills, students will learn to produce a fashion illustration, apply advanced patternmaking principles and develop patterns for complex fashion garments. Training in important business skills such as cost estimating and marketing is also provided. The course is offered in partnership with the innovative College of Fashion Design. Specialist trainers will provide guidance, while mentors are on hand to assist students with their study skills. Upon successful completion of their qualification, students may wish to consider further training in the field, or they may seek opportunities in the expanding market for small fashion design and tailor-made clothing businesses. During the course, you will undertake: > Portfolio of Evidence > Presentations > Questions > Products. What about Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)? We understand that you may already have many skills and areas of expertise that you have obtained in different ways and these are recognised through our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. Open Colleges has developed an RPL application kit for this course. The Student Handbook, available on the Open Colleges website, provides more information

What is the duration of the course? The maximum duration for the course is 30 months. To complete the course in this timeframe, we recommend that you study a minimum of 14 hours per week. This is a guide only the time taken to complete your course will depend on your level of skill and knowledge. What are the admission requirements for the course? Minimum age requirements You will need to be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18 your application must be signed by a parent or guardian. Education and employment recognition You will need to have completed year 10, or equivalent. Equivalency can be demonstrated by one of the following: > A qualification at Certificate II level or higher OR > 2 Years of industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication. English language requirements This course requires you to read comprehensive learner workbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and engage in online discussion forums. Furthermore, the delivery mode relies on the extensive use of written communication. As such, entry to the course requires English proficiency to Year 10 level, or equivalent (see Education Requirements for equivalency) or completion of an approved English language test (see website for details). Computing requirements You will need access to a computer and the internet and you must have basic computing skills. Minimum specifications for your computer are: > Microsoft Office 2013 or equivalent > broadband internet connection > 4GB of RAM 8GB is recommended > 10.5GB available hard disc space for installation > DVD ROM drive compatible with dual layer DVD s. Mac OS: > Mac OS X v or v 10.7 > Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support. Windows: > Microsoft Windows 7 > Intel Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64 processor > Open GL 2.0 capable system > Java Runtime Environment 1.6 > Quicktime software required for HTML 5 media playback and multimedia features > Adobe Flash Player 10 software required to export SWF files. Audio-visual requirements You will need access to software to view online videos and images. Software such as Adobe Reader, Windows Media Player, Windows Photo Viewer etc. are available as free downloads from the internet. You will need a Picture Manager program to resize and edit images as well. Access to a digital video recording device and/or digital camera and associated software to save and upload video and image files to OpenSpace is also required. Many mobile phones and smartphones include this technology.
