The Academic Director (AD) works closely with other ELICOS managers, with colleagues in the English & Careers (E&C) business unit, University Partnerships Australasia (UPA) division, and with other stakeholders in pursuit of these objectives. Essential skills and experience Master's degree in TESOL or Applied Linguistics 10 years' relevant ELICOS experience, with at least 5 in ELT management Demonstrated excellence in English pathway program management and governance within contemporary best practice Demonstrated track record of effective relationship management with tertiary international education stakeholders Substantial experience in curriculum development Detailed understanding of relevant ELICOS regulatory frameworks, including the ESOS Act, National Code, ELICOS National Standards and Streamlined Student Visa Framework High-level management and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated ability to motivate, mentor and challenge, and the capacity to drive high levels of stakeholder engagement across multiple delivery sites and with peers in other functional areas Extensive understanding of contemporary issues in higher and international education Outstanding written and oral communication, analytic, presentation & negotiation skills Advanced MS Office skills. Leadership of the design, development and review of world-class Academic Programs The Academic Director is responsible and accountable for establishing and maintaining the highest quality Academic Programs, by: maintaining comprehensive and authoritative, version-controlled and professionally presented digital masters of all curricula, course coordination guidance, teacher and student materials, and associated program documentation for designated courses directing the regular global evaluation and review of Academic Programs, including structured management of quality assurance, through systematic and inclusive analysis of: i. student evaluations and other feedback ii. iii. teacher and coordinator feedback external feedback from agents, tertiary partners and other stakeholders directing Academic Program curriculum review and development work, with appropriate inclusion of Navitas and external stakeholders, using appropriate contemporary forums and resources with Learning & Teaching, managing the development of online materials to complement face-to-face delivery modes. B. Coordination of Academic Programs across diverse delivery contexts The Academic Director maintains the highest standards of Academic Program delivery, by: ensuring education managers and teachers receive effective induction, direction and support in the delivery of Academic English and related course curricula, materials and other resources leading the development and maintenance of world-class governance for Academic Program delivery, including robust academic integrity and quality assurance mechanisms managing Academic Program administration, policies, procedures and systems, including course licensing with external business units overseeing professional development for Academic Program teachers, managers and other stakeholders, contributing to the enhancement of skills and work performance across all delivery modes and locations ensuring effective communication with and between Academic Program stakeholders, including tertiary partners and marketing staff Position Vacant Page 3 of 5 January 2017
4 encouraging scholarship in teaching and learning identifying and resolving issues arising in Academic Program delivery participating in relevant E&C and UPA forums so as to facilitate continuous organisational improvement, and to promote the competitive market position and profitability of ELICOS operations providing timely and accurate information and reports on Academic Program delivery to the Director, ELICOS and other E&C and UPA senior managers, including the preparation of the annual Learning and Teaching Report. C. Leadership of partner relationships and Direct Entry Agreements The Academic Director ensures excellent partner relationships through: effectively managing systematic engagement and relationship management practices with UPA and key external partners, in alignment with Divisional best practice establishing partner satisfaction benchmarks and reporting developing and maintaining longitudinal progress-tracking and reporting systems, including post-elicos outcomes, in alignment with existing Navitas tracer studies, with a focus on proactive intervention and communication strategies for responding to students at risk of failing to meet pathway objectives establishing and maintaining systems, policies and procedures that embody an integrated and holistic approach to Direct Entry Agreements, demonstrating best practice in the management and support of learning pathways, including transparent alignment with: the English Language Standards for Higher Education the English Australia Best Practice Guide: Direct Entry Programs identifying and resolving issues affecting Direct Entry pathway students, partners and agents establishing new, value-adding Direct Entry Agreements. D. Strategy and marketing Contributes to successful business strategies and marketing, by: effectively contributing to strategic, marketing and operational planning within ELICOS, E&C and UPA with other senior managers, identifying, analysing and developing new business opportunities. 4.
