2 Assignment % of Grade Tests % Homework % Final Exam % GRADING AND EVALUATION Grading Scale: A B C D F 0-59 Homework: 25% Homework should be completed on MyMathLab BEFORE the test is given for that chapter in order to be more successful on the test. Any homework assignments not completed by the due date will be assigned a grade of 0. Tests/Quizzes: 55% The due date of each test can be found on MyMathLab. Students should prepare for each test by studying notes/examples and working on the MyMathLab homework assignments. Tests should be completed within the 90 minutes allotted. Final Exam: 20% The Final Exam will be comprehensive. The Final Exam will be proctored and must be completed on a Wiregrass campus or at an approved testing facility. LATE WORK/MAKE-UP TEST POLICY Assignments must be submitted by the due date given in MyMathLab. No late work is accepted. Exams will be announced with ample time for preparation. One make-up exam will be allowed at the end of the semester for a missed exam. Students may make-up only one missed exam with the exception of the final exam. Appeals for acceptance of late work or additional make-up exams, beyond the one allowed, must be sent to the Dean of Sciences in writing. This appeal must be received within three days of the due date. Appeals should only be filed in cases of extreme circumstance. Documentation must be submitted to support the circumstance. Examples of extreme circumstances include hospitalization or death in the immediate family. It is the student s responsibility to make sure they are aware of any assignments missed when absent. Being absent from class is not an excuse for missed assignments or tests. All coursework requirements must be completed or zeros will be given for those assignments not finished by the last day of the semester. No incomplete will be given unless the I grade is agreed upon by the Dean of Academic Affairs and the instructor (hardship cases only). Incomplete coursework might also cause the student to receive a final grade of F for this course. If the incomplete (I) is not removed by mid-term of the next semester, it will be recorded as a failure (F) on the official transcript of the student.

3 COLLEGE ATTENDANCE POLICY To comply with WGTC s mission to provide a highly-trained workforce through quality academic and hands-on instruction, students are expected to regularly attend all classes. Regular attendance provides students with full course benefits and establishes a pattern of dependability and punctuality required in the workplace. Attendance Wiregrass Georgia Technical College expects that all students shall regularly attend all scheduled class meetings held for instruction or examination. It is recognized that class attendance is essentially a matter between students and their instructors. Instructors must explain their absence policy in the course syllabus. All students are held responsible for knowing the specific attendance requirements as prescribed by their instructors and for the satisfactory make-up work missed by absences. When students are to be absent from class, they should immediately contact the instructor. Attendance Requirements Attendance is demonstrated through active participation. (Simply logging in to an online class is not considered active participation.) Academically related activities include, but are not limited to, the following: submitting a current academic assignment completing an exam, an interactive tutorial, or computer-assisted instruction participating in an online discussion about academic matters Instructor Responsibilities Instructors are responsible for maintaining records of attendance to comply with financial aid and federal regulations. When lack of attendance negatively affects the student s performance in the classroom, the instructor will submit an alert through the early alert management system. If interventions are unsuccessful and attendance does not improve, a withdrawal alert should be submitted through the early alert management system. COURSE ATTENDANCE Students that fail to submit two consecutive units of work (chapters, weeks, etc.) or do not actively work within their MyMathLab course for three consecutive weeks will be considered to have missed 20% of the course and dropped from the course. An exception to the three consecutive week rule can be made if a student is far enough ahead of their assigned work. The Student Navigator, his/her designee, or the student must complete the drop/add/withdrawal form with the Office of the Registrar in order to be removed from the class roster following the dismissal. The student will be dropped with a W prior to the last date to withdraw (March 17, 2016). If the form is submitted after the last date to withdraw, the student will receive an F. The student has the right to appeal his/her dismissal from class due to attendance. A letter requesting an appeal must be submitted to the Academic Dean of the program within 24 hours of the dismissal. The student may continue to attend class pending the outcome of the appeals process. The Academic Dean has the final decision. The final decision must be communicated to the student within 48 hours upon receipt. It is the student s responsibility to make sure they are aware of any assignments made when absent. Being absent from class is not an excuse for missed assignments or tests.

4 DROP/WITHDRAWAL POLICY As an adult enrolling in college courses, the student assumes the financial and academic responsibility to properly withdraw from his or her courses if they decide not to complete them. A student has the privilege of dropping a course during the first three instructional days of each semester through his or her Banner Web account, without the drop becoming part of the permanent academic record and without it affecting the student s financial aid. However, any amount charged against Pell or HOPE in the bookstore will be owed back to the college. A student withdrawing from a class after the third instructional day will receive a grade of W up to midterm and an F if withdrawing after midterm for that course. The specific deadline dates for withdrawal are published on the school s home website page, under Academic Calendar. Withdrawals may result in a loss of financial aid. Students must submit a Withdrawal Form to the appropriate office at the college in order to officially withdraw from a course or courses. For specific information on how to withdraw, please check the Student Handbook for more information, or visit the website at WORK ETHICS You will receive a work ethics grade in this course. The work ethics grade will be a numerical grade and will be determined by evaluating factors such as attendance, productivity, punctuality, teamwork, character traits, leadership, personal organizational skills, communication, respect, confidence, and appearance. Your instructor will constantly monitor your skill in these areas and will document those situations in which you exceed or fail to meet his or her expectations of you. At mid-semester you will receive a rating that reflects these documented situations. If you have been deficient in a certain area, you will be given the opportunity to bring your performance up to industry standards before grades are issued at the end of the semester. The work ethics grade will be placed on your permanent record. ACADEMIC HONESTY As stated in the student behavior section of the WGTC student handbook, any student, acting individually or in concert with others, who violates any part of the student conduct code shall be subject to disciplinary procedures including dismissal from a class session by the instructor or suspension or expulsion by the authorized administrator. Such misconduct shall include the commission of, or the attempt to commit, any of the stated offenses in the handbook including academic dishonesty. Academic dishonesty, includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, and collusion. Cheating and/or plagiarism are the unauthorized use or close imitation of another s work without permission and/or acknowledgement. 5 GRADUATE WARRANTY The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) guarantees the skills of its students for two years after they graduate from a degree or diploma program of study. Graduates who are found to be deficient in one or more competencies as defined in the curriculum standards can retake the related course work at no instructional cost to the graduate or employer, at any TCSG institution within the state.
