3 Why are we doing it? Learning has changed

4 Why? Implementing 21st Century Learning Strategies Enhance student learning experiences Identifying students strengths and weaknesses (ACER Testing) Access to learning anywhere, anytime NAPLAN is online from 2018 the HSC will follow

5 Why? Students can take responsibility for their own learning Allows parents to see what students are learning Allows access to assignments and assessment tasks Relevant tool in an age where technological skills are now commonplace Technology is not going away.

6 Will my child be in front of a computer screen all day? The answer is no We are using an integrated approach blended learning BYOD doesn t replace reading and writing Students still need pen, pencil and paper Worksheets electronic and pen & paper Technology is used where it can enhance learning

7 Impact Improve student access to information and communication Foster communication, collaboration and creative skills Increase student engagement Focus on student-centered learning Increase communication between students and teachers

8 How does it work? The 1:1 Learning utilises technology as a teaching and learning tool Microsoft Office 365 platform (MS Word, Excel and other programs) OneNote collaboration and communication between staff & students Canvas Other web-based apps and tools Typing tutor, Spelling City, Scootle, Sketch-up

9 Integrated Approach A class notebook in Office 365 Enables students to organise their lessons Teachers can access and give feedback in the students online workbook. Teachers can issue worksheets directly to the notebook which cannot be lost Canvas is connected directly to the notebook Microsoft Office 365 products Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote are available free to all students to download onto up to 5 devices OneDrive Cloud Storage for documents

10 They can also have a copy for work offline. 1TB of cloud based storage. Every Student can access the latest Office software free! Students can share and work collaboratively.

19 STORAGE SPACE* SCREEN SIZE ** CARRY TO SCHOOL 11 inch screen size Suitable case that will protect the device from physical and water damage. 100GB or more. 13 inch or larger.

20 SOFTWARE** Latest browser software installed. See: whatbrowser.org to update your browser The College has access to cloud based software for all minimum requirements. Suitable anti-virus software installed. The College can provide Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud to student owned OSX and Windows devices.

21 KEYBOARD SECURITY Physical keyboard with individual keys (not just a touch surface) Password, PIN code or other authentication mechanism to lock the device. lock the device. Physical keyboard with fullsize keys Tracking software on the device in case of loss.

22 Important Specification Considerations Chromebooks, ipads and tablets are not suitable and don t meet minimum requirements. The device must have a keyboard Students studying elective subjects such as Visual Arts, Music, Computing, TAS or Drama may benefit from a device that exceeds the recommended specifications Students studying design or computing subjects in Years 9-12 will need to contact Head of TAS for further details.

23 Purchase Portal The College provides a portal from which parents can purchase a device 3 different devices, varying prices that meet minimum requirements

Devices should be at the College for pre-christmas collection by no later than Monday 18 December 2017

25 What does the College provide? The College provides a connection to the internet Programs included for MS Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud to student owned OSX and Windows devices IT staff assist with installation and use of software

26 What security measures are in place? Monitors student internet access Employs safe search filters Global blacklist Blocks social media on College network

27 Device usage at home Set up parental controls on your home computer and your child s laptop Apply safe search filters on internet access Monitor your child s use of laptop and location No devices in bedrooms or where they can t be seen by the parent/carer

28 Device safety at the College On arriving at the College students place laptops in their classroom A strong, protective case is highly recommended The College strongly recommends insuring your child s device Student devices are not insured through the College

29 College IT User Agreement Online approval/acceptance by Parents via Edumate Parent Portal Hard copy signed by students Students who breach the agreement may lose internet privileges Nothing online is private
