15 Freedom of Speech! Peer to Peer Social Network Application for Avoiding Internet Censorship CHAN Cheuk Hang Cliff Recently, most social network platform like Facebook, YouTube are becoming popular, information can spread very fast through these network. Government want to control or block the information. But people have their right to know, so people would need a social network platform let them to spread information without censorship. The aim of this project is to develop a Peer to Peer social network application to avoid censorship from government. This application focuses on user can talk what they want to talk, share what they want to share and no one can delete without user himself. Although he is not smart, but he is try to be a smart guy and learn more in computing. 15

16 A Kinect-based Exergame for Training Body Balance for the Aged CHAN Cheuk Hei Andres Body balance is an essential factor of body health care. People with weak body balance have a high possibility of falling. Hence, it may cause serious damage, especially the elderly. This project is aiming at training elderly body balance by playing computer games. This project developed a Kinect exergame for elderly aged 55 to 70 to train their body balance. The game trains different sections of body, the upper body and lower body. It also provides encouragement for the players to increase their motivation. Moreover, scoring system is included to show the player's strength of balance. The gameplay is referenced by the TV show called The Hole in The Wall. Players need to match the shapes of the cutouts on the walls in order to acquire scores. Scores are given based on the time the player holding the poses. The longer the player holds the poses, the higher the score is given. With the help of interesting gameplay, the motivation of elderly towards exercising is increased. Also, their body balance can be improved in a relaxing way. Supervised by Dr. Andrew Lui Chan Cheuk Hei Andres is studying in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing at The Open University of Hong Kong. He is interested in developing computer games. 17 An Augmented Reality Museum (ARM) CHAN Ka Fai The aim of this project is to develop an augmented reality mobile application on Android platforms called Augmented Reality Museum to give wonderful and fantastic experiences to users when they visit the Hong Kong Museum of History and to help the museum to solve the attendance problem. Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that provides an augmented view of the physical world by adding computer generated sensory such as sound, image, video, or other graphics and visual elements. view according to different exhibits. For example, the augmented reality function identifies an image, it will display the information of the author (or artist), and the production year and other related production. For the other sub-function, it provides a lot of function such as Quiz game. Quiz game which provides a lots of question for users to answer, users can get knowledge in this game, thereby they can know more about the exhibition. 19 FluteKit: A Mobile Learning Application for Beginners to train Rhythm Skills and learn Flute Fundamentals CHENG Cheuk Hei Chris The project is to develop a mobile e- learning application for flute learners to train their rhythm skills and help them build flute fundamental knowledge so that they can handle new rhythms better and commit fewer errors when playing. There are many music-learning applications that can help users improve sight-reading skills. Our solution is to train users ability to identify the note of a staff. However, this may not help instrument learners as they may not be able to interpret the note identified on the instruments, nor to play the rhythm correctly. Therefore the said mobile application prototype has been developed. The application aims to train flute learners rhythm skills and sight-reading skills through practices. The rhythms that learners have played are recorded and the assessment results, e.g. results of sight reading exercises and results of playing a rhythm, are used to find out the weaknesses of individual learners so that the level of exercises given to the learner is adjusted. Comments and improvement tips are provided to learners according to the weaknesses found. Apart from rhythm skills and sight-reading skills, the application also provides some flute fundamentals e-learning materials. Flute learners can have a comprehensive development after using the application. Supervised by Dr. Vanessa Ng Chris Cheng is studying in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing programme. 20 A Web-based Final Year Project Tracking System for Computing Department at the OUHK CHEUNG Kwai Keung In the Computing programmes at the Open University of Hong Kong, the students must develop a system and write various reports for their final year projects. Many experiences and opinions reflect FYP tracking and supervision are difficulty achieved due to the scarcity of comprehensive project management concepts and practices. It is common that students would not proceed their FYP systemically. They would not plan their projects in many cases, and the project traceability therefore decreases. Moreover, faculties supervise a lot of FYPs at the same time. Current practices use and memorandum, supervisor is prone to confuse a project with another similar projects or stages. The above situations may cause a worst case: delay in FYP! The aim of this project is to develop a webbased project tracking system called SeeingTasks to help the students to keep track of the FYP progress as well as the supervisors to know their progresses and provide helps in order to avoid project delay. This project presents the design and assessment of this system step-by-step. The assessment included interviews of both students and faculties. The interview was a set of specific questions used to record and evaluate the effectiveness and experience of SeeingTasks. SeeingTasks provides two perspectives for students and supervisors. In the student perspective, there are 5 core features namely project planning, file, message, status analysis and report generation. Students can create, track and adjust their projects. In the supervisor perspective, the supervisor can view all or each progress and performance of the student s project, create a supervision event and verify the submitted files. With the help of SeeingTasks, the students are expected to finish their FYP within the deadline and achieve desired target and appreciate the importance of project management concepts. On the other hand, the supervisors are expected to monitor many FYPs progresses efficiently and their workloads are reduced. Supervised by Dr. Kelvin Lee Cheung Kwai Keung is studying in the Bachelor of Computing with Honours in Internet Technology programme at the OUHK. He is interested in web programming because he believes the coming years will see a lot of enterprise workloads moving into the cloud, and he wants to contribute in this area. He likes to open his mind to new ideas and technologies. User interface design is his second interest area. He had various experiences on customization and modification of popular JQuery Plugins to make his own web projects more user-friendly. Keung can be contacted at kkcheung79@gmail.com and

21 GoHiking: An Androidbased Hiking Assistant CHONG Wai Yip More and more people are interested in hiking nowadays. And the smart phones are advanced like computers. So it is good to develop an application to facilitate hikers. When we go hiking, we always meet some common problems such as planning routes, locating all participants, seeking helps and acknowledging performance and state of fitness. To deal with these problems, I make use of different APIs. For example, Google Maps and related APIs are used for route planning, locating participants and collecting users speeds. Google Cloud Messaging is used for seeking helps from other participants and inviting new participants in the surrounding area. When a participant is deviated from the main team, all the participants will be alerted with a warning. When someone is walking on the wrong way, his phone will also give out alerts. When someone is injured or get loss, he can seek help by sending his location to all the users of this application or 992 which is an emergency service hotline receiving SMS. When someone is hiking lonely, he can invite users nearby to hike together and thus make new friends. When someone finished a route, he can check his performance and fitness related information. Therefore, the significance of this project is to reduce the risks of hiking, help people expand their social circles and help people know about their performance and fitness related information. Supervised by Dr. TS Li CHONG Wai Yip is studying in the Bachelor of Computing with Honours program after the graduation from Elegantia College. At the OUHK, he enjoys problem solving and he is interested in Android application development. After graduation this spring, CHONG wants to achieve his career goal of being an Android application developer and pursue a postgraduate study in business to broaden his horizon. CHONG can be contacted at rickycwy26@gmail.com. 21

22 Flash to HTML5 Video: Using Proxy to Minimize the Response Time CHUI Tsz Hang Ronny The use of IOS (operating system) and MAC OS has become a trend nowadays. One problem these OS facing is the lack of support of Flash that is still widely used in web page. Instead, these two operating systems support HTML5. The aim of this project is to show how to perform a conversion of Flash to HTML5 through a proxy. The objectives are converting Flash video to HTLM5 video format, changing the content of the web page and reducing the response time. To convert the Flash video to HTML5 video, a software tool called FFmpeg is used. FFmpeg can be executed in the proxy server. To speed up the process, the Flash video should be broken down before the conversion and re-built after the conversion. Then the HTML5 web page is returned to user. A new approach of buffering is to share the progress bar of the HTML5 videos. There are many advantages of the new approach, such as reducing the loading time, moving forward and backward of the video and reducing the data loaded by the user. The final report will describe a convenient and fast way to users so that they can watch converted Flash video on the Apple devices. Supervised by Dr. Kelvin Lee Ronny Tsz-Hang Chui is studying in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing programme. He graduated at Tsuen Wan Public Ho Chuen Yiu Memorial College in 2009 and Ju Ching Chu Secondary School in Ronny is interested in web development. 24 Development of an Online Auction Website FUNG Chun Yin Eric With the globalization and the development of network technology, online shopping or auction websites are also developing quickly. These websites can attract millions of users (both sellers and buyers) to deal. Keep customers loyal is important, so what kinds of function or services should be provided by the online auction websites to meet the needs of the user? The project would contribute to analysis the current existing Customer-to- Customer (C2C) online auction websites to investigate what functions can be enhanced or develop any new functions are needed. We will develop a new C2C online auctions website as an example of this approach. This project began with the investigation of the current existing C2C online auction websites, identifying whether these websites meet the needs of the users. After the investigation, we have found that the following factors are not user-friendly enough to users. It includes search function, ranking system for the participants, limitations of product description and etc. To improve the above functions, we have added more conditions to the functions or record more details in the systems. It also proves more freedom to the users just like allow users embed YouTube videos to the product description page. Supervised by Dr. Kelvin Lee Fung Chun Yin (Eric) is studying in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing programme at the Open University of Hong Kong. 25 A Synchronized Peer-topeer Discussion Group that Bypasses Internet Censorship FUNG Kai Him John No one likes private communication being monitored or controlled. Communications relying on specific servers may be censored because of excessive internet censorship policies. Peer-to-peer communication can protect your right of speech from censorship. The aim of project is to develop a secured discussion group application with message synchronization. Internet censorship is based on monitoring message exchange across servers that provide message exchange service and filtering packets. If encrypted message packets do not pass through a server, it is difficult to be cracked or filtered. After encrypting the messages, third party cannot crack the messages in reasonable period of time even the message pass through an unsafe channel. Encryption is done using SSL and certificate that keeps communication private and authenticated. Multiple related clients are connected together by distributed P2P network. Message exchange is handled by a synchronized message flow to avoid missing messages. Supervised by Dr. TS Li To shorten the time of finding friends, a server still remains but it serves as a tracker, pointing out IP addresses of client but no private information will pass through it. Clients and related users will bear the responsibility of data storage on their own. Fung Kai Him, John is currently studying for Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computing degree in the Open University of Hong Kong. He graduated from Cheung Sha Wan Catholic Secondary School after finishing Form 7. He is working as a peer tutor for the Computing department, providing academic advices for junior computing students. He is interested in learning from books and solving real-life problem with the aid of computer solutions. 26 RunGlobal: A Socializing Application for Gathering Global Runners Together FUNG Kwong Chiu Michael Marathon is a popular sport globally. Runners sharing the same interest naturally wish to know each other, but there are often not many opportunities before or after runners' events to know new friends and to build trust. The project focuses on developing an application platform for runners to build friendship before, during and after their training. Through this platform, they can share their racing experience and with deeper understanding with runners worldwide. Runners can organize events and encourage others to join. When the runners travel to other cities, they can meet local runners and run together. The application supports Team Running function, which records all team members location and speed in a same map, therefore runners will have a better understanding of the overall performance of the team. They can also create posts on the application, to share interesting topics and news with their friends. Besides, running clubs and organizations are welcome to publicize on the platform. The project investigates the use of similarity search to provide relevant results based on users personal information. The search process starts with general rules and then searches for additional rules. Besides, Google Map APIs is used to implement the exercise function. 31 Mobile Application Development of Interactive Classical Guitar Self- Learning Assistant KO Tsz Yiu The aim of this project is to build a classical guitar learning assistance on Android platform to enhance the efficiency of self-learning on classical guitars. The word classical means playing guitar with traditional music score (staff), instead of tablature. Self-learning is popular nowadays. People tend to self-learn baking, musical instrument, sports and many other hobbies, because of flexible time, finance problem or other reasons. However, selflearners face problems of lacking learning direction and unawareness of mistakes. Especially for classical guitar, learning to read staff is more difficult than learning to read tablature that straightly indicates fingering rather than musical pitches. Therefore, this mobile application is intended to solve the problems by the following two components. The first component is a flow of chapters. User can follow the flow so that they will not lose the way. The second component is interactive tool. The application will require user to finish particular tasks using a real guitar and then give feedback on mistakes. Since the application is built to make up for the lack of self-learning, it is hoped that the effectiveness of self-learning on classical guitar could be improved. Supervised by Dr. Vanessa Ng Ko Tsz Yiu is studying in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Computer programming at the Open University of Hong Kong. He is interested in mobile application development, object-oriented software development and game development. However, there are different supermarket retailers, offering different prices in Hong Kong and we would need to visit every store to compare each price repeatedly. This traditional way of comparing price is time consuming, since we have to travel two or more supermarkets. Sometimes, unfortunately, the product was sold out in a store, that means that we need to visit another store again. In this project, an Android Application is developed to reduce the time cost of locating best price. This application provides different product searching methods such as searching with keyword and type. Users can search with advanced options that are availability in each store and range of best price. With the use of Google Map, users can locate stores nearby supermarkets. The map will show which store(s) have their desired products and those prices are the best. Users can also add their favourite products in shopping list. Then, users can keep tracking those products prices easily. It also let users know which places to buy their favourite products in order to save money. In order to let more users know where the best price is, this application applies a ranking model to arouse user interest to share product price. 40 An Algorithm for Auto- Grading of Reading Comprehension of Very Short Answers LAU Hiu Wai Ray Nowadays, teachers spend plenty of time marking student answers manually for reading comprehension exercises. To save the time of marking process, several types of auto marking systems have been developed. However, short answer autograding algorithms still have limitations. The main problem is that computer cannot really understand all semantic meaning of the sentences. The project aims to develop an algorithm which high performance can mark "veryshort" answer automatically. The definition of "very short" answer is "range from word to a complete sentence". A prototype has been developed for this algorithm. More than 800 sample answers collected from a local secondary school have been used to evaluate the performance of the algorithm. In the prototype, the answers are separated in eight types: What, When, Where, Why, Who, Which, How, and Request. The marking processes are changed with different answer types. Preliminary tests have revealed that the algorithm achieves a satisfactory level of over 80% of accuracy. 41 Socializing Travellers LAU Ka Wo Alex The final report would present an Android application for hikers to meet new friends and to communicate. Hiking is one of the most popular sports among the general public in Hong Kong. It is worth promoting this activity as a culture of regular social activity. Existing travel-related mobile applications encapsulate different types of activities for users to use at the same time, so the in-app functions are too general and lacking focus. The application of this project tries to connect hikers together. Hikers can look for partners before a hiking trip, share their experience after trip, and communicate to others on the application. This project includes three components in order to solve the problem: a system is designed for hikers to look for partners when organizing an event, a platform is designed for hikers to communicate, and a database system to deal with users input data. This result indicates that the users are easier to look for partners before having a hiking trip using the application. It also provides a way for hikers to interact with others. The distance between different hikers becomes shorter. 50 A User-Friendly Online Auction Website LEUNG Sum Shing Michael Online Auction provides a platform for buyers and sellers to undergo transactions in the most convenient way. Buyers can buy at a cheaper price, and sellers can upload their item with paying little money instead of pay the rent each month for a store. There are many auction websites out there, most of them already well developed, and fully functional. Although there are many functions, some of them had put aside the user-friendliness, which makes users do not know how to use them, and start getting confused and finally stop browsing on that auction site. This project develops a web-based auction site, and aims to provide a platform for users to have good experience of auctions. Beside the building a basic auction system, features will be added in order to enhance the user-friendliness of the website, and the idea is that the website functions will automatically run by themselves without users' notice, but eventually users will find the generated result useful. And also, this website will add some alternative functions that hardly found and suggest user to use it and hope that will help user in selling item and placing bid. With the additional features, users will find this auction site more easy to use, and they will have a nice time while participating an auction with all the userfriendly functions. The presentation and the report will introduce the methodology and the design of the website and the background system in detail. 54 On Comparing Ideas in Passages using Semantic Graphs LO Chak Shing This article introduces an approach to determine the existence of same ideas presented in two essays by comparing their semantic graphs against each other. The essays are analysed sentence by sentence and the relations between the words are determined. Based on the result, a graph is built, with nodes representing the words and edges representing the relations of the words. Similar ideas presented in the two essays can be figured out by finding whether same nodes or edges existed in the graphs. After some testing, it shows a potential in using this approach for plagiarism checking and automated grading systems. 56 A Mind Map Mobile Application with Merging and Collaborative Functions LO Ka Yee Brainstorming ideas and organizing information could be more effective and convenient with a mobile application of mind map. Since a significant usage of mind mapping is brainstorming in groups, a mind-mapping application with collaboration function is desirable. However, there are few mobile applications having the function of collaboration such as merging or sharing mind map, so that a group cannot edit the same mind map in different places and repeated ideas cause the conflicts in mind map. Because of these problems, this project focuses on designing collaborative functions in a mind mapping application. In this project, the aim is focus on merging two mind maps. User can choose two mind maps and the application will generate a merged mind map, so that the information can be shown in one map only. This application can let ideas and points of view, which separated in two mind maps, can be grouped up in one mind map. Thus, it can enhance the quality of communication when a group of people wants to discuss a common topic because of non-repeated mind map. This application also enhances the UI design of mind maps, the nodes and lines can be decorated in different colours and shapes, so that people can read the map easier and help people to have a better conversation. 60 Smartphone-based Fall Detection for Elderly NG Ka Wai Benson Fall is a major concern for old people living alone in Hong Kong. Many old people get injuries because of fall. Worse still, there are lots of tragedies showed that the elderly died after fall because nobody was in attendance. The outcome could be improved if the caregivers would receive rapid notifications once elderly has falled at home. This report describes a study into analysis of the patterns about the tri-axial accelerometer signals. The fall features are also used to analyse the signals that are useful to distinguish between fall and fall-like activities such as jumping or sitting. The accelerometer data is collected from a smartphone, and is evaluated with threshold algorithms and machine learning methods respectively. There were two parts in the project. The first part compared the performances between two methods when analysing the samples. The second part integrated the analysis results into smartphone application. The application can detect fall activities in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). An alarm will be raised when a fall activity is suspected. The users need to respond the alarm within 30 seconds. The system alert will send SMS and call the caregivers to ask for help automatically when there is no response. The analysis results indicated that machine learning methods had better performance, including precision, accuracy and sensitivity, than threshold algorithm that is an ideal approach for fall detection. Also, the result is useful to reduce false alarms as machine learning had high ability to distinguish fall and non-fall activities. 62 3CS: C Code Checker for Enhancement of Security NG Wai Tak This project aims to develop a new security code checker for the C language. C is a programming language with history of over 40 years. With pointers and no garbage collection, C is now a language with more security problems than others such as Java. Some C code checkers have already become available and many of them can do their job well. However, still there is room for improvement because there are hidden vulnerabilities remained undetected. This project would develop methods for checking 4 types of vulnerabilities initially, including buffer overflow, integer overflow, unformatted string, and double free of memory. To increase the accuracy and efficiency of checking, and to solve problems of existing checkers, two new features have been developed. They are Variable Orientated Checking (VOC) and Run Time Environment Simulation (RTES). VOC refers to checking vulnerabilities base on variables. RTES means simulating code execution order of run time at static checking environment. During checking, a box will be assigned to each variable to store their codes. Then all program codes will be rearranged into execution order and codes will be delivered into boxes of related variables. After that, the system will scan operations of variables in the corresponding box to find their vulnerabilities. Besides, by using design pattern facade, checking of new vulnerabilities can be added easily. After using this product of overcoming problems of existing checkers, users can discover security problems of their C programs easily. Also, users can modify their code according to tips provided in the checker. 63 Development of Mobile and Web-based System for Museum Management NG Yu Ching Wilson This project is to develop a mobile application for a museum in order to giving visitors a better experience and also managing collection data on the webbased system. Many museums provide rental recorders for tourists while visiting the venue. Visitors would listen to the description of the collection via the recorder during the visit and return it when they leave. The problem is that it is costly to maintain thousands of recorders, sometimes not user-friendly, and the recorders do not help visitors navigating the place. There are four parts of the proposed system. Part one is developing an android-based application to search, list out collections in the museum, display the information and audio on mobile devices. The second part is to develop a QR code system on mobile devices in order to scan and quickly display the information and navigation on map. The third part is a comment system for visitors to share their feeling. The last part is to develop a web-based admin panel using PHP and MySQL to manage data on the web server. The result shows that Android application for the museum is a good idea to combine map and audio recording. Comment section is a new idea to make the visitors interact to each other. Webbased system is useful to manage an amount of data on web server. 64 A C Program Code Security Reviewer based on Static and Dynamic Analysis NGAN Kin Cheung Kent Code security is an important concern. It matters because not only vulnerabilities could destroy a computer system but also lead to data and financial loss. However, Code security is difficult to be maintained by programmers as because security holes would not be revealed in common programming tools such as compilers and code editors. Through the analysis of commonly found C program code vulnerabilities and the development of the C Code Security Reviewer in this project, the programmers could be notified of what security vulnerabilities occurred during programming, with an error message composed of code security descriptions, potential danger and its solutions. Eventually, the programmer can create safe program code before it is rolled out to production. Program checking is based on both static and dynamic analysis. The static analysis checks include program slicing techniques and tree-based testing. The dynamic analysis includes run time checking with debugging tool. The purpose of carrying dual-mode analysis can make sure some runtime invoked security problems be detected in which they may not be inspected by static syntax code. Finally, programmers can inspect their code security by user-friendly UI similar to the common code editors they normally use. Supervised by Ms. Wing Go Kent Ngan is now studying in the honour year at the Open University of Hong Kong and would like to further his academic studies with a Master Degree. With working experience on web application design and programming, he is devoted to be an analyst programmer as his future career. His interests in IT include web design and system development. 87 A Book Finding App for the Library Abstract LAU On Ki, LEE Sung Hei, CHEONG Chi Yin Shortest path is a classical and widely used model in computer science. Given a starting point S and an end point V, our goal is to find a path from S to V of shortest length. We study the extended version of shortest path problem, where the path is required to pass several given points. We call this problem multi-destination path-finding problem. Multi-destination path finding problem can model many applications that target on locating multiple items or products in stores or shelves and generating a short path for users. By experiments on different path calculating methods such as Minimum Spanning Tree (MST) and Brute Force (Optimum length and exponential time), we design our own path generating method - Humanity design. We have developed an application for books finding in a college library. We model the book finding in library as a multi-destination path-finding problem, and build an app that can find the locations of books and show a suggested path on the floor plan. The app will let users create a wish list of books, and then it will calculate the shelves locations and generate a path. Supervisor: Dr. Y.C. 90 A Smart Personal Photo Organizing and Sharing Application Abstract WONG Kwok Hung, SHUM Ming Tsun, YIP Tsz Fung Nowadays, people use the smart-phones to take photos of different people, scenery or capture some useful photos of documents, notes, works, etc. Most people use the gallery to store and organize their photos because it is done by the smart phones automatically by default, some of them will use other applications which provides more sophisticated and professional features to manage their photos, for instance, Adobe Revel and Million Moments. However, we found that the interface and functions of those applications are very similar and trivial. Furthermore, the photos shared from the social networks like Facebook and Whatsapp are found to be another main source of photos stored in phones yet most of them are redundant. This led to the rapid expansion in number of photos and causing a lot of problems on searching, photo redundancy and the waste of capacity. Therefore, we are going to design and implement a new application to deal with the above problems. In this project, we are going to develop smart personal photo organizing application, so as to solve the problem on searching photos; help users to handle the duplicated photos; improve the interface and develop some special functions. We expect that the system can reduce the time spent on finding photos, users can manage the photos in a neat and tidy way which reduce user frustration and enhance user experience. Supervisor: Dr. Raymond Pang Yip Tsz Fung, Kenneth: I am very glad to do the Final Year Project on a photo organizing Android application. Everyone could achieve lots of work with his mobile devices, in research and statistical analysis, for example. We have invented an app to serve as a purpose of a questionnaire, making it easier for your company to obtain customers information and get feedbacks. Customer s feedback allows you to have better understanding of customers needs. Even in the internal training you can use this app to receive staff members information and feedback. In addition, after the customers finish the questionnaire, the result will insert into the database automatically, it can reduce time and human resource. Quick Response Code (QR code) is applied to generate a barcode. Customers could scan the barcode through our app to gain access to a website for survey when they are waiting for some your companies service. Moreover, we created a website for the manager to manage the survey. For example, create survey, view the surveys result, generate QR code of the survey, and print out the result with PDF format. Supervisor: Dr. Raymond Pang Ng Ka Long Carlos is a self-motivated, energetic undergraduate student in BSc (Hons) Web Technologies at the OUHK and he aims to be a Network Security Specialist as an ambition. He is skilled in network security and network infrastructure. For this project, he is in charge of aspects in management and development. This project (E-Survey) will be a open source and will minister free website services in the foreseeable future. Lau Chun Yan Edmond is a Year 4 student in the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies. In this project, he is responsible for database architecture and document. He is glad that he can join this project as he can learn the database more thoroughly. It makes him having more experience on it and helpful to his career. 91

92 A Mobile Learning App for Property Management Abstract LAM Chun Kit, CHAN Yuen Kwan, LEUNG Chor Yi In this project, we propose a lightweight e-learning system for mobile learners who wish to save their bandwidth. In the meantime we provide a more user-friendly and comprehensive administration tool for teachers to prepare and deliver course materials (in form of presentation slides) more efficiently and easily. The teachers can create their presentation slides through the back-end user interface by a few clicks, or upload existing MS Power Point slides onto the system. The Power Point slides will be converted into a lightweight format (e.g. compressed image files) that saves the bandwidth of the mobile device of the user. In addition, teachers may record their audio narrations in order to give a clearer explanation to the contents. Furthermore, the teacher can monitor the students learning progress and their performances through the system generated analysis reports. User studies have been conducted to verify whether the app interface is user-friendly for the learners. We have collaborated with Hong Yip (a property management company) and deliver online courses to the front-line workers on trial basis. Supervisor: Dr. Jeff Tang Leung Chor Yi is a student of the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies programme. She has joined some competitions before and received some awards. These competitions have given her rich experiences of computing in real life and she has also learnt how to provide a user-friendly system to users. She is good at PHP, Java and android programming. She is a key programmer in this project. She is responsible for coding for front-end and back-end. Lam Chun Kit, Raymond is a student of the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies programme. In this project, He responsible for back-end coding by using PHP. Chan Yuen Kwan is a student of the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies programme at the OUHK. She is good at graphic design and front-end web technologies. In this project, she is responsible for graphic, web design and coding for the front-end. 92

93 An Advanced Stock Querying System Abstract LUNG Ngai Him, CHUI Shing Hin, LAU Sing Wai Nowadays, finance industry is very important globally and locally. Hong Kong is one of the world's leading financial centers. Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx) is Asia's second largest stock exchange in terms of market capitalization. The performance of stock exchange will affect the economy of Hong Kong directly in different areas. Stock traders want to make accurate decisions. They analyze stock information and many believe that technical analysis would help. Information can be analyzed through quotes. Technical analysis such as Exponential Moving Average (EMA), Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) and Relative Strength Index (RSI). These stock criteria can help investors predicting the price trend. Therefore, we build a query system to satisfy the needs of different traders. The aim of this project is to develop a stock querying system which can help investors asking various types of questions on stock price information by queries. Using the historical price data of the stocks, the system allows users to specify criteria for the match, and displays the results to the users graphically. Through the system interface, users can specify different types of criteria. As the results may contain a lot of stocks, the system interface should allow users to navigate the results easily. Supervisor: Dr. W.S. Ho Lung Ngai Him expects to graduate in Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies in His interest is computer programming, especially in web, game and graphics. He is a graduate from the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and La Salle College. In retrospect his passion towards computer programming initiated when he was still a primary school student and was fascinated by Pokémon. Meanwhile he aspire in the future he can develop such kind of game. Chui Shing Hin expects to graduate with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Web Technologies degree. In the programme, he has acquired knowledge in computer programming, software engineering and system administration. He believes such knowledge could help his career in the future. Besides studying, I enjoy making friends with people of different walks of life. Therefore he likes to join different activities organized by some OUHK student societies. Lau Sing Wai Sam is going to graduate in the Bachelor's degree of Science with Honours in Web Technologies. Before he began this programme, he completed Higher Diploma in Computing Studies at the Caritas Institute of Higher Education in September He has spent much time to learn to improve my programming skills, and reading books about computer, society, novel, comic and the machine repair skill. His passion is focus to use his skills and knowledge to help people to solve their problems. 93

94 A Web based Duty Management System for a Health Centre Abstract TSE Pan Tung, CHUNG Chi Kwan Mobile Integrative Health Center is an initiative of the Centre for Smart Health to advocate the outreach health care model via mobile clinic to deliver primary and preventive care services to needy senior citizens of the local community. There is an average of 5000 to 6000 patients per month but there are only 4 full-time nurses. The high volume of patients has made the nurse always very busy. In order to solve the problem of the lack of nursing staff, the Health Center will employ student helpers to take up some of the work. Helpers would receive an invitation at the beginning of the month, and they would reply if interested. Then the advanced practice nurse (APNs) would select the student helpers for each working day as tentative roster by using Google drive. At the end of the month, staff would send the finalized roster only to selected student helpers and inform them to be on duty according to the roster and upload it onto Google drive. However, this system is inconvenient to student helpers and APNs. APNs need to mark the student helper's arrive time and leave time manually. Without database support, they can only use Google drive to share the roaster and need count the salary by using the data collected by APNs. The whole process is very inefficient. Therefore an automated Health Center Management System is required which aims to streamline the operation. The aim of this project is to develop an automated Health Center Management System. This system helps APNs to quickly retrieve information, reduce daily work and let them focus on helping patients. Supervisor: Dr. Raymond Pang Tse Pan Tung is studying for Bachelor of Science in Web Technologies. He is interested in RFID technology. Chung Chi Kwan is a student of the Bachelor of Science in Web Technologies, He is interested game development and programming. 94
