Online activities are also required. The Final exam is scheduled on Friday May 2 nd from 10:30am to 1:15pm. Method of Delivery Student- Student/Faculty- Student Interaction Strategy This CGS 1100 course is delivered in asynchronous (anytime/anywhere) mode using the Canvas system at URL Therefore, please review the Canvas student tutorials at the same URL. This CGS 1100 course will be using EMERGE and SAM software as well as the Canvas system. SAM software s URL To guide the learning process, the instructor will be sending biweekly e- mails* containing detailed tasks (assignments). These tasks usually include textbook readings; SAM assignments; lectures; quizzes; simulations; videos; and interactive discussion forums, among other learning strategies The s will contain the latest-time (deadline) to complete the tasks (assignments), although a tentative schedule will also be posted on Canvas. Students work will be assessed and evaluated based on the quizzes, assignments, and exams completed online. These skills and knowledge are necessary for your understanding of information systems (ISM 3011), operations management (MAN 3504) and accounting, as well as many courses outside the Lutgert College of Business. After completing this course you should have a general knowledge of information technology and be able to use Office 2010 products (specific learning outcomes for each chapter are provided in the Course Guide). Proficiency in EXCEL 2010 is emphasized, since proficiency will be needed in Economics, Operations Management (MAN 3504), and Finance. Catalog Description Student Learning Outcomes An introduction to computer hardware and software tools for knowledge workers. Software tools include spreadsheets, word processing, two- and threedimensional presentation graphics, electronic mail, and network browsers. In addition, the course explores computer information systems in organizations and the use of computers to enhance productivity. LCOB Learning Goal (EAGLES) Learning Outcome Assessment

Note: You may NOT be able to complete the assignments with the Mac version

But Microsoft Office WORD (Word processor), EXCEL (Spreadsheet), and ACCESS (Database). for Windows are available in most computer labs and Library on FGCU main campus. Each semester there will be a CGS 1100 Lab located in the College of Business. Please see the posting in Canvas for hours and location. Students are able to purchase a copy of Microsoft Office for just at the FGCU bookstore for convenience. [The MSDNAA program which provides free Microsoft applications at: bf9b-e d d8897. But Office 2010 is not for free yet.] Introduction Computer Software & Technology An overview on the topics covered in this class. You will be exposed to a general overview of the following topics: Digital Technology Hardware Software Internet Telecommunications Information Security Database E-Commerce Business Systems Privacy Ethics Globalization As well as learning those topics, you will get hands-on experience in Microsoft 2010 by: Creating/Editing a Document Multi-Page Reports Formatting formulas in EXCEL Adding Charts and Graphs in EXCEL Creating/Editing a Database in ACCESS Teaching Philosophy Instructor's Role - The instructor (Inst. Lina Bouayad) serves as facilitator in the learning process: Creating exciting learning opportunities for the students Assigning readings & challenging projects Assessing students' work Student's Role - Students (you!) should be active participants in the learning process: Reading assigned chapters, articles and cases (by due date) Submitting assignments into the SAM website Completing the EMERGE quizzes on Canvas. COURSE EVALUATION Attendance- Participation Grading Criteria for assignments and tests. Quizzes / Knowledge Assessments will be given each week following the assigned reading on Emerge. Homework Assignments will be given weekly and are completed in the SAM software. Comprehensive Application Test will be given after each skill segment is complete i.e. WORD, EXCEL, and ACCESS. Group Project: the group project is to be completed at the end of the semester and it should encompass all the skills learned in the course. Important: Before posting your comments on Canvas forums, please check your spelling and grammar using your word processor s editing tools: Since spelling and grammatical errors will affect your grade on the assignments, it s important to stress the use a spelling and grammatical checker on both formal and informal assignments. Of course, we understand that a word processor does not fix all mistakes, so you must proofread the document before cutting-and-pasting on Canvas (or when sending s; creating the speaker notes for the final project; or any other written
