6 Defining The Language Learning Need While most of the U.S. population speaks only English at home or a handful of other languages like Spanish or Vietnamese, the American Community Survey reveals the wide-ranging language diversity of the United States, said Erik Vickstrom, a Census Bureau statistician. more than a third of the population speaks a language other than English at home, and close to 200 different languages are spoken. Knowing the number of languages and how many speak these languages in a particular area provides valuable information to policymakers, planners and researchers.

37 Problems before the Rosetta Stone/EBSCO partnership and PLUS software We were limited to only 30 users. We have over 2, 000 students at our school. I had to manually create and delete accounts along with switching accounts. There was a secret login and link that students kept forgetting about. No proxy authentication.

38 Rosetta then became the only on campus option for theological languages.

40 Benefits of the EBSCO/Rosetta Stone Partnership Offers more languages including another important language that we did not have before which was Latin. Proxy authentication was a huge plus instead of a super secret login and password. We have it linked on our database page, so it is easier seen. Students can easily create their own accounts and switch between languages. We are no longer limited to 30 users.

41 Future? Our school is the development stages of starting an English learning institute. The Rosetta tool could assist with this process. As more students learn about this, they will be able to engage with the cultures around them and the world.
