1 8th Grade Registration Northeast Middle School
2 Trimesters to Semesters & Course Changes Many changes have occurred because middle schools will be aligned with high schools next year on a semester system instead of trimesters. Changes to course offerings have unlocked many year-long classes and allowed for personalization and choice.
3 Major Changes 7th Grade Full year electives with some classes on rotations. 8th Grade Some classes are offered in semesters with the option to take them for a full year. Music and World Language classes are full-year courses.

11 Theatre Production: The Play s the Thing Prerequisite: NONE Let s put on a show! Choose to act or work behind the scenes in design or construction, lights or sound, or stage management. All work leads to a final production for an invited audience. Possible Career Path: Arts and Communication Human Services
12 Family and Consumer Sciences Exploration Prerequisite: NONE This class explores topics such as: Decision-making, Human Relations, Money and Resource Management, Food Preparation, Child Development, Sewing, etc. Possible Career Path: Human Services Business Management
13 Engineering Challengers Prerequisite: NONE Compete against your classmates in the world of engineering, designing and robotics while challenging your problem solving skills and STEM knowledge! Are you up for the challenge? Students in this course will be able to use concepts of problem solving to challenge their skills and knowledge of engineering. Course content will revolve around the various engineering subjects of robotics, architecture, flight concepts with the use of drones and 3D designing. Various design and programming software will allow each student to construct and test robots, mechanisms, designs in green architecture, 3D design and printing all while using the design process and tools. 14 Entrepreneurs-Innovators-App Creators Prerequisite: NONE Learn advanced skills in entrepreneurship, business and marketing, video production, and programming in a hands-on manner. You will leave this course with the ability to think critically and creatively through coding electronic devices, creating mobile apps, leading others with an entrepreneurial spirit, gaining financial responsibility from the businesses you create and operate within your school, adding meaning to pictures and video using a blend of technology and storytelling content all while understanding the core value and Some of the projects you ll do: benefits of teamwork. 1. Create a mobile app for your phone 2. Make money running your own business 3. Produce and edit a commercial for your business 4. Invent and code electronic devices Possible Careers: Entrepreneur, Technology, Video Game Developer, Programmer, Corporate Industries
15 Video Production for Digital Devices Prerequisite: NONE Create projects that encompass techniques used in the fields of TV, Film, and Web based applications. You will work in cooperative learning teams to fulfill the jobs assignments of a production team by: writing and editing copy for teleprompters, creating and planning storyboards, directing, editing and filming scenes using a variety of cameras available to us, and serving as on air talent. Some of the projects you ll do: 1. Create student broadcast news 2. Develop short films and documentaries while developing strong knowledge in film, editing, lighting and more. Possible Careers: Filming, Television and Web Based Industries
16 World Languages - Full Year Courses Prerequisite: successful completion of Level A of the same language Available courses include: French B, German B, Latin B & Spanish B Upon successful completion of level B, students will be ready to continue their language in Level 2 at the high school. Possible Career Path: Human Services, Government & Public Administration, Business Management

23 Other Important Information You must have the following listed on the final form: Your full name Selected courses Signature of Music teacher if selecting for 8th grade Signature of World Languages teacher if selecting for 8th grade Parent/Guardian signature and YOUR signature. Parent/Guardian and YOUR signature on Challenge Science contract IF selecting that course.
24 ONLINE STUDENT REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS - 8th Grade Online registration for the school year is available via the Infinite Campus Portal from 7:30 AM on Monday, January 15 through 8:30 AM on Friday, January 26. STEP ONE: Log on to your Infinite Campus Portal Account - You may logon and register using either a student account or a parent account. You must know your username and password to log on. If you have forgotten your username and/or password or need them to be reset, please go to the Infinite Campus website. STEP TWO: Access the Course Search Screen First click on the Registration link located on the left side of the window. Then click on the Course Search tab at the top of the window. STEP THREE: Select your Elective Courses Your required classes (Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Physical Education) will automatically be selected for you and will be listed on the left side of the window under the heading Required Courses. Please note any special placement classes will be made at a later date. You will ONLY need to choose your elective classes. Search for a course by typing the course number (located in the Registration Handbook) in the appropriate field. Then click the Go button. A. You could also search for a course by typing in the first few letters of the course name. Clicking the Go button will display all available courses. B. When you find the Elective course you want, select it by clicking on it. Then click the Request this Course button located at the bottom of the page. Please note that you may need to scroll down in order to see this button. C. The course name should now appear on the left side of the window under the heading Requested Courses. D. If you want to remove a course that you selected, you can do so. Begin by clicking on the course name under the Requested Courses heading. Then click on the Drop This Request button. The course name should disappear from the Requested Courses section. STEP FOUR: Select your Alternate Course Choice -- To select your alternate course you will follow the same procedure outlined in Step Three, except that you will click the Request as an Alternate button, instead of the Request this Course button referred to in Step 3(B). STEP FIVE: Submit your Signed Registration Form to your World History Teacher - Include your signed Challenge Science contract, if applicable Your course preferences are a first step in developing a school-wide schedule. Please be aware that it may be difficult to honor the requests of students who submit their Registration Forms after the due date.
