2 UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) started in April 2006 with the aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK and it has been recognized as a key multi stakeholder programme that has strengthened the educational relations between the UK and India UKIERI Phase One UKIERI Phase Two UKIERI is being implemented with the aim to set an example of best practice in international cooperation

4 Achievements (UKIERI Phase One: ) - Invested in a total of 182 UK India partnerships that includes collaborative groupings among academic researchers, clusters of school and pairing of Further Education colleges; - Supported 55 individual awards through PhD scholarships and fellowships; - 88 facilitation grants to travel between UK and India for developing partnerships; - Enhanced student mobility by providing 393 British students an opportunity to visit India under the Study India Programme; - Facilitated work placements to 106 Indian graduates under the India Graduate work experience programme and UKIERI-GSK work placement opportunity; - Working with key stakeholders & policymakers to address the issues of Quality Assurance, Leadership, sector skill development and other policy issues - 40 Events in policy dialogue and networking

5 UKIERI Phase Two ( ) Strand 1: Leadership Development Enhancing capacity of individuals and institutions on leadership - To increase leadership capacity in schools and develop and deliver a programme that will meet the needs of the Indian School Education system - To develop an academic HE leadership programme that provides core knowledge and skills required to become an effective leader and link centres of excellence of Higher Education, both India and the UK - To develop an academic FE leadership programme that provides knowledge and skills required for institutional leadership in Further Education institutions and colleges and thereby creating sustainable linkages between India and the UK FEIs

6 UKIERI Phase Two ( ) Strand 2 : Innovation Partnerships Providing opportunities for institutions to collaborate on innovation and thematic partnerships - To encourage the development of sustainable partnerships and collaboration that involves joint research and innovation through Innovation Centres and Innovation Universities - To support the development of new sustainable, institutional partnerships between UK Higher Education and Indian institutions across themes including Science, Technology, Engineering and Social Sciences - To establish Tripartite Partnerships between US, UK and India through research collaborations and science and technology partnerships

7 UKIERI Phase Two ( ) Strand 3 : Skills Development Enhancing UK India collaborations in skills development -To provide opportunities for institutional capacity building to organisations/consortia for delivery of training and setting up of Centers of Excellence in partnership with industry bodies/smes - To enable the development of a strong Indian sector skills councils focusing on employer engagement approaches, developing curriculum and qualifications, certification and assessment etc -To facilitate partner finding between India and the UK

8 UKIERI Phase Two ( ) Strand 4 : Enhancing mobility Fostering student mobility and mutual recognition of learning - Strengthening of cultural linkages between India and the UK through UKIERI Study India Programme - To ensure significant increase in the number of UK students undertaking study and work placements in India - To work towards the transferability and equivalence of qualifications through recognition of learning and achievements and quality assurance
