3 COURSE DESCRIPTIPON Course objectives: Learning outcomes On successful completion of this course, student should be able to: Course content understanding the basic concepts and principles of signal processing and preparation for transmission system. showing the basic principles of modern transmission devices and systems. 1. explain the basic physical and technical principles underlying the modern transmission devices and systems, 2. conduct experiments and measurements in the laboratory and on actual components, devices, equipment and systems, 3. interpret the collected data and measurement results, 4. describe the development and use of the transmission systems, 5. plan development of transmission systems, 6. test the active transmission equipment for the technical functionality. Introduction. Digital transmission. The parameters of transmission. The basic concept of the transmission system. Line coding, regeneration and amplification of the signal. Multiplexing and multiplexers: a frequencydivision multiplexing ( FDM ) and time domain ( TDM ), multiplexing light signals ( CWDM, WDM and DWDM ), optical time division multiplexing (OTDM ), multiplexers electrical and light signals. Plesiokrona (PDH) and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SONET / SDH). Methods of improving the conventional SONET / SDH systems : virtual concatenation ( VCAT ), the general procedure framing ( GFP ), link capacity adjustment scheme ( LCAS ). Telecommunication transmission media: types of media, construction copper and optical fibers, the application of transmissions systems. Fiber optic systems: optical fiber and the propagation of light, phenomena that affect the change in signal transmission optical fiber, light sources, light transmitters, light detectors, light receivers, passive optical components and use of fiber-optic systems. Architecture transmission networks. Trends in the development of fiber-optic transmission technology. 3
