1 Team members: Drsey Armstrng, Jhn Burgess, Cdy Cnnr, Rbin Cunningham, Ellen Gundlach, Timthy Newby, Natasha Watkins We appreciate the Digital Educatin ffice s recgnitin and encuragement f excellent nline teaching. Our cmmittee sees the gal f these awards nt nly as celebrating excellence, but als using these excellence award winners as mentrs t thers in the Digital Educatin cmmunity. We recmmend that the award winners be celebrated in the wider university cmmunity, nt just as part f the Digital Educatin cmmunity here at Purdue. Students shuld be part f the awards prcess thrugh nminating curses, decisin-making, and describing best practices frm their perspectives. We encurage Digital Educatin t start accepting nminatins (self-nminatins are welcme) fr the awards and hnrs listed belw in February, allwing 4 weeks fr submissins. Winners will be ntified in late March 2017 and hnred at the awards banquet scheduled fr April 25, This has been apprved by the Annual University Awards Cmmittee. We hpe that the award winners will be hnred with a plaque r tken f achievement and a mnetary award. Each award amunt shuld be equal and the amunt will be left up t the Digital Educatin Department based n funds available fr this pprtunity. If a team shuld win the award, the mnetary stipend wuld be divided amng all the award winners. We wuld like t re-establish a ne-day, annual, public Purdue Digital Educatin cnference, perhaps during Natinal Distance Learning week. The award winners frm the past year wuld give presentatins n what makes their curses special and effective. An nline library f screenshts and/r vide turs with written descriptins f winning and hnrable mentin curses shuld be made available t all Purdue instructrs. Evaluatrs culd even pst cmments abut what made this curse great. Best practices need t be mdeled and shared. The fllwing awards shuld be awarded (each award, its evaluating cmmittee, and its nminatin award are utlined in mre detail in the fllwing pages): Digital Educatin: Excellence in Teaching (1 award fr credit curse; 1 award fr nncredit curse) Digital Educatin Schlarship f Teaching and Learning Award Excellence in Distance Learning/Curse Design Innvative curse design and use f technlgy MVP: Instructinal Design and Supprt Award Each award shuld have its wn evaluatin cmmittee that shuld cnsist f five members selected frm faculty, adjuncts, instructrs, staff frm the system-wide cmmunity, students; a Digital Educatin representative will als serve n each cmmittee. This cmmittee feels strngly that student evaluatins shuld be included in evaluatin prcess. The Digital Educatin representative that facilitates each cmmittee shuld try t remve the nminatin infrmatin abut the individual/teams that are nminated t try t make it an annymus prcess fr the cmmittee t evaluate. Once the first cuts are made and finalists in each categry are
2 decided, the DE representative shuld have access t cpy the curse int a Blackbard shell s the ther cmmittee members may actually see a versin f the curse t make final decisins.
