FOREST TRAIL ACADEMY -- LOGIN Welcome to Forest Trail Academy / Virtual High School of Excellence! The following materials will guide you through our e- learning system and outline the most important/most used links. It is best to follow the material while simultaneously navigating through the e-learning system. EXPLORING THE HOME PAGE When you first sign in to the e-learning system, you will arrive at the home page. For your convenience, the home page gives an overview of recent, unread messages and ungraded assessments. You can also access other areas of the system via the tabs along the top of the page. Top navigation menu. Recent, unread messages. You can click the blue subject link to open and read message. Once read, they no longer appear on home page.
Ungraded student assessments. Click each tab to view and grade submitted assignments, essays and worksheets.
EXPLORING THE STUDENTS TAB Search Search students in the system. Expired/Expiring Students View expired and expiring students. Ungraded Submissions View and grade ungraded student submissions. Grade Management -- View and graded ungraded student submissions. Demographics -- Search enrolled students demographics. Class Attendance View class attendance. Consolidated Report -- View consolidated student grade reports. STUDENTS > SEARCH To view a student s profile, click the blue ID in the first column. Using the search tools, you can search for students by first/last name, status, grade, etc.
STUDENTS > EXPIRED/EXPIRING STUDENTS Forest Trail Academy is a self-paced program with rolling admissions. Students have one year from the date of enrollment to complete their classes. You can view Expiring and Expired students via Students > Expired Students. It s a good habit to contact expiring students who have not completed your class remind them of their upcoming expire date and work out a plan to complete the course by the expire date.
STUDENTS > UNGRADED SUBMISSIONS Much like the view from the Home Page, the Ungraded Submissions page lists all ungraded student work. The Summary tab provides an overview by course of how many assessments of each type are currently ungraded. Clicking any of the other tabs ( Assignments, Essays, and Worksheet ) will open up lists of student submissions. Here, you will see the date and time the work was submitted, the title of the assessment, the course and the student name. You can click the blue Title link to view and grade the assessment (see Grading Student Work for more).
STUDENTS > CLASS ATTENDANCE You can view student attendance by class via Students > Class Attendance. Using the search tools at the top, you can select the month, year and course for which you wish to view class attendance. The attendance report will list all students in the class, marking attendance with an x. It is good habit to check student attendance daily. Students who have not been active in your class for 3 consecutive days should be contacted.
EXPLORING THE COURSES TAB My Classes -- Preview your classes and gradebooks. Content Management Manage course content. Calendars View your calendar. Handouts View course handouts. COURSES > MY CLASSES Clicking the blue Preview link will open up the class. Here you can view course content and assessments. See next page for more. Clicking the new gradebook link will open the course gradebook. Here, you can view student grades, reopen and delete assignments, edit scores, and add attempts. See Grading Student Work for more.
COURSES > MY CLASSES > PREVIEW Clicking the blue Preview link for a class opens a new window containing the content of the class. You can navigate through the class using the left-hand navigation. Clicking a chapter (+) in the left-hand navigation will open a drop down of pages within the chapter. Clicking on a page will open the page in the window on the right.
COURSES > CALENDARS You can view your calendar Monthly, Weekly or Daily using the tabs along the top. To add an appointment/activity to your calendar, click the square below the date.
EXPLORING THE COMMUNICATION TAB Message Center View and send messages to students, teachers, parents, administration and tech support. Community Access the FTA Community. COMMUNICATION > MESSAGE CENTER To send a message, click the New tab. See more on next page. To open/read a message, click the blue Subject link. You can flag a message by clicking the star. To unflag, simply click the star again. Received messages are sorted by sender. Click the tabs to view messages from Teacher Services, Tech Services, Students, etc.
