1 DOCUMENT GOALS: 1. To offer a summary of the Four Domains of Charlotte Danielson s Framework for Teaching s 2. To provide brief descriptions of strategies utilized by the AVID College- Readiness System 3. To show how AVID strategies align with the components of each domain This document is primarily designed in hopes of providing information for the following groups: 1. Administrators and staff who are new to AVID. 2. Administrators and staff who are familiar with AVID and are considering implementing the program in their schools. 3. Administrators and staff who are in their first or second year of implementation of AVID in their schools and are approaching AVID certification.

Demonstrating knowledge of content and pedagogy knowledge of content and the structure of the discipline knowledge of prerequisite relationships knowledge of content- related pedagogy AVID Support for Each Component AVID Essentials: Essential 3: The school must be committed to full implementation of the AVID System, with students enrolled in the year- long elective class(es) available within the regular academic school day. AVID class instruction provides a balance between use of AVID curriculum, tutorials, and motivational team building activities. Essential 4: AVID students must be enrolled in a rigorous course of study that will enable them to meet requirements for university enrollment. Essential 5: A strong, relevant writing and reading curriculum provide a basis for instruction in the AVID classroom. Essential 6: Inquiry is used as a basis for instructions in the AVID classroom to promote critical thinking. Essential 7: Collaboration is used as a basis for instruction in the AVID classroom.
