While we continue to connect students with the just right book, teach Information Literacy skills, and support the curriculum through print and online materials, we now also help integrate technology, support the Maker Movement and provide a Learning Commons- type space in which all these occur. It is important that we as professional teacher librarians keep abreast of the dynamic and changing role. ISLMA s dedicated leaders must continue to provide the support needed to allow all its members to successfully grow and transform so that we can continue to work effectively with teachers and students. School librarians need support and ISLMA can provide one way for librarians to connect with others and expand their personal learning networks. Librarians also need to be able to count on ISLMA as a strong professional organization that will work to support us and our work, including advocacy to communities, school districts, and legislators.

That we use literature to engage and excite young people who then go on to become life- long readers is without question. That we are information literacy leaders in our schools and communities is without question. Why, then, do some administrators and many legislators question whether funds should be spent on our salaries, programs, and collections? It is our responsibility as professionals to advocate for ourselves at the local, state, and national levels. If we don t do it, who will? Good question. Too many of our colleagues are not being paid as professionals because of budget issues. School librarians need to be more visible inside and outside their school building, collaborating not only with teachers and administrators, but also with other community stakeholders (public libraries, school foundations, student organizations, businesses and Rotary Clubs). These relationships can lead to alternative funding for resources that will increase student learning and community awareness.

Librarians need to help lead that change. My current passions include: YA Literature, Maker Spaces, Transliteracy, Augmented Reality and App Smashing.
