Tasks involved: - Desk research of interactive activities used in educational text books and their pedagogical rationale e.g. fill the gaps, interactive drag and drop, connect the dots, etc - Visit to schools to learn from field experiences of realistic use of ICTs in the curriculum - Facilitating a one and half day workshop with a selected group of NCDC specialists to compile the ideas and best practices based on their experiences - Developing a draft version of the guidelines and facilitating a half day face to face feedback session - Developing the final version with input from NCDC specialists and presenting the manual to all members of staff April to July Conceptual and IT Solution Design for Integrating ICT in Health and Education Sectors Service Delivery for International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), Uganda programme responsible for: - Assisting the IICD Uganda partners (local NGOs working in the Health and education Sectors) with carrying out Information flow analysis - Defining, together with the project owners how to assess the needs and validate the project concept within the organisation and with the target groups - Defining together with the project owner(s) SMART objectives for the different projects on the basis of a proper problem analysis; - Ensuring that the project outcomes are in line with the strategy of the organisation - Advising project owners and IICD on gaps and requirements needed in order to ensure quality outputs - Preparing and co-facilitating with IICD s Technical Advisor the Solution Design Workshop - Working with partners on defining and integrating the technical solution and plan into project proposals - Guiding the entire process of writing project concepts and solutions. - Identifying current ICT/IT information needs for the projects together with the project stakeholders. - Facilitating discussions among relevant stakeholders (internal and external) to unearth relevant cross cutting requirements. - Identifying possible linkages between projects/partners, collaboration opportunities/joint projects and the possible risks. - Advising IICD and partners on collaboration opportunities. June 2010 to March Consultant for a Usability study on the potential value of offthe-shelf electronic devices: Mobile phones with video capability, Literacy Bridge talking book, talking poster and an MP3 audio/video player to agriculture extension in developing countries: case study of Mbale, Uganda for Design Revolution (D-Rev), USA. The assignment involved: - Sourcing and packaging of content relevant for the crops and season of field work - Translation of content into the local language of the subjects - Conversion of content into video for the audio visual devices - Fieldwork involving questionnaires and user tests with the following sets of subjects: 2 Community Knowledge Workers, 2 members of Grameen AppLab, 2 5
