Traditional one day training courses will tackle a specific need but an accredited programme will allow a breadth of learning which is not achievable in a one day course. Our qualification programmes take a blended learning approach, with exclusive access to dedicated e-learning materials, comprehensive course materials and face to face support sessions. We offer qualifications at Level 2, 3 and 4 across a wide range of housing specialisms. All of our programmes are delivered by expert tutors and every student receives ongoing support throughout the programme. 3 Tailoring our services to help you improve yours All students are required to attend an induction day at the beginning of the course. As a guide we recommend one face-to-face session for each assignment but more can be built into the programme if required. Which qualifications are available? Level 2 (comparable to NVQ Level 2 / GCSE) CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Maintenance In-house qualifications effectively combine the advantages of nationally recognised qualifications with the benefits of in-house programmes. Staff learn about the wider context and develop their housing knowledge but they also have the opportunity to consider issues from the organisation s perspective, to discuss the implications for their own organisation and how they might apply lessons learned to the workplace. 5 Be better in practice One of the first organisations to take up a blended learning programme was Ramsey Town Commissioners Housing and Properties Section, in association with Douglas Borough Council. Three of their employees completed the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice, and their results were among the best achieved in the five years we ve been running this qualification. Anne-Marie Goodall, housing projects liaison officer at Ramsey Town Commissioners said: I found the CIH level 2 course very interesting and informative. I have gained more confidence in dealing with tenant related matters, which has included difficult and sensitive situations, and I gained a professional insight into where I would like my career to be focused in the future. Sonia Kennish, senior housing officer at Ramsey Town Commissioners said she found this aspect of the course invaluable: On a personal level, I have gained a great deal of confidence and have pushed myself to levels that I did not know I was capable of: this, in turn, has improved my skills, enabling me to be more effective in not only day-to-day duties but also the more challenging aspects that my role demands. Richard Kaighen, maintenance supervisor at Ramsey Town Commissioners, feels that gaining the qualification has made a difference to his role. He said: As my occupation is building maintenance based in a supervisory role and I interact with tenants on a day-to-day basis, the content of the course has helped me to deliver our services more efficiently: for example, I now feel equipped to answer housing-based queries confidently and make decisions on site, where I would normally be passing these on to our housing officers. I feel that both maintenance and housing departments should work closely together to be an effective team and the thought provoking course content has helped to strengthen this view.
