2 Ministry of Education Program Grants Program Initiatives are under the supervision of Superintendent of Education, Al Cesiunas. The Ministry of Education has defined board allocations for the following programs: Aboriginal Education First Nation, Métis, and Inuit - $ 5, Responsibility: Student Success Leader: David Sharp Code #0858 Funds will be used to continue support for voluntary confidential Aboriginal student selfidentification, and professional development in Aboriginal education and school based projects focused on mentorship, transitions, community engagement, regional symposia, and resources for teachers. Assessment and Evaluation - $ 10, Responsibility: Curriculum Coordinator: Kim Anderson Code #7190 Funding is provided for teams in each board to facilitate planning for Board implementation of the newly released Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting policy. Autism - $ 3, Responsibility: Special Education Coordinator: Shelly Durance Code #7501 Supports and Training: This funding supports hands-on practical training modules on Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) instructional methods, with increasing skill development to implement ABA instructional methods in the classroom, targeting school based teams, including teachers and other educators working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Capacity Building - $ 20,000 Responsibility: Curriculum Coordinator: Kim Anderson Kindergarten Capacity Building and Collaborative Inquiry Project to: build connections to Grade One programming decisions and explore the common context between these years. provide support for teachers and boards to inquire about their teaching and learning practice such that others may learn from their experience through a structured sharing process

3 Community Use of Schools - Outreach Coordinator - $ 40, Responsibility: Superintendent of Business: Chris Howarth Business Administrator: Diana Griffiths This program helps to ensure the effectiveness of the Community Use of Schools Program and Community Hubs at the local level, and explore options for the sharing of underutilized school facilities. Coordinators fulfill functions within school boards which include, but are not limited to, supporting the use of schools as a community resource, community outreach, coordinating with The Ministry of Education (EDU), municipalities, community agencies, schools and user groups. Differentiated Instruction (DI) - $ 3,050 Responsibility: Student Success Leader: David Sharp Code #7182 The funding will be used to support school-based job embedded learning opportunities based on a professional learning cycle for grades Healthy Schools -Teacher Training - $ 1, Responsibility: School boards will receive funding for elementary school teacher training on the School Food and Beverage Policy to reinforce its messages so that students acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to adopt healthy eating habits. Library Investment Project (Elementary Schools) - $ 59, Responsibility: Funding continues for library staff (teacher-librarians or library technicians) within elementary schools. Managing Information for Student Achievement (MISA) - $ 29, Responsibility: MISA System Data Coordinator: Mike Belluz Code #0747 This initiative has enabled boards to increase the capacity of teachers, principals, and board administrators to utilize information in support of improved student outcomes. The Ministry will continue to provide funding to further assist with MISA Local Capacity

4 Math and Literacy Professional Learning Strategy - $ 30, Responsibility: Student Success Leader: David Sharp All boards will continue to receive funds to support the development of leadership in effecting systemic change by identifying and nurturing future instructional leaders in Mathematics and Literacy (Grades 7-12). The funds will also be used to: provide supports for instructional design. build teachers' content knowledge. continue to build instructional and leadership capacities. NTIP - $ 68, Responsibility: Student Success Leader David Sharp Code #0753 Mentoring of teachers with 0, 1, or 2 years of experience is designed to support the growth and professional development of new teachers. The Board has identified 23.1 (FTE) new teachers to qualify under this funding. Ontario Focused Intervention Partnership OFIP - $ 6, Responsibility: - Code #0768 This funding is for teacher release time for boards and schools in general, and specifically for CLIPs, providing support and monitoring school progress and program impacts. Official Languages in Education -OLE-FML and FSL - $ 34,282 Responsibility: Curriculum Coordinator: Kim Anderson - Code #0710 In , Canada-Ontario Agreement on Minority Language Education and Second Official Language Instruction funding will be allocated to French-and English-language boards to contribute to the development and enhancement of programs and services corresponding to the following five outcomes: Student Participation Student Performance Provision of Programs Enriched School Environment and Support for Education Research Staff. Specific to French as a Second Language, funding to English-language school boards will support two priority areas, French as a Second Language professional learning opportunities for teachers and French learning opportunities for students, as well as some provincial projects that will be led by boards

5 Ontario Leadership Strategy - $ 24,390 Responsibility: School Effectiveness Leader: Joanne Querel The Ontario Leadership Strategy, launched in 2008, is designed to foster leadership of the highest quality in schools and boards across the province. In , boards will be provided with one funding allocation with the expectation that they will put a Board Leadership Development Strategy in place. This strategy will set out the Board s succession planning and talent development initiatives, including mentoring for newly appointed school leaders. The Board Leadership Development Strategy will directly support the goals of the school and board improvement plans for student achievement and the Board Strategic Plan. Professional Learning Cycle - $ 5, Responsibility: Student Success Leader: David Sharp All boards will receive funds to improve student achievement (Grades 7-12) through supports and tools for professional learning. A cycle of collaborative inquiry into instructional and assessment practice is one of these tools. The professional learning cycle implementation will allow teacher teams to co-plan, co-teach, co-assess with the guidance of board-level leaders and experts in mathematics, literacy, differentiated instruction and subject-specific content. Funds will be used to support the implementation of a professional learning cycle as a tool for jobembedded learning focused on classroom instruction and assessment. Funding will be allocated to English Language boards Grades 7-12 only, with a base allocation of $5,000 per board. Safe Schools Supports for Improving School Climate - $ 3, Responsibility: Code #0772 School boards will receive a one-time allocation in to promote activities at the school level that will improve and promote a positive school climate. Safe Schools Training - $ 6, Responsibility: The Ministry is currently working with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) to revise the Provincial Model for a Local Police/School Board Protocol. This funding in will assist boards to conduct training for board staff and police services on the revised provincial model and to negotiate revised protocols at the local level, based on the new provincial model. Schools Helping Schools (Networking & Schools in the Middle) - $ 3, Responsibility: School Effectiveness Leader: Joanne Querel Code #7150 All boards receive networking funds to support professional learning in hubs and networks where teachers examine student work, plan instruction, and track student progress resulting in improved K-6 student achievement

6 Schools in the Middle - $ 25, Responsibility: School Effectiveness Leader: Joanne Querel Code #7187 All boards receive SIM funding to support the work of a system improvement team comprised of teachers, principals and supervisory officers, and to engage school staff in professional learning through networking among schools. Student Achievement Officers and senior Ministry staff work directly with board and school staff to: learn about effective implementation of teaching, learning, and leading practices that result in improved student achievement. learn about effective implementation of teaching, learning, and leading practices that result in improved student achievement. Student Success & Cross Panel Teams - $ Responsibility: Student Success Leader: David Sharp Code #7184 All boards will continue to receive funds to support Student Success and Cross Panel Teams. The funds will be used to: support the transition planning process for students identify, monitor and track all students (grades 7 to 12) Input from Student Success Leaders and Student Success Teachers across the province will define the professional development resource and/or support structures to be delivered in All boards are required to submit Taking Stock data (Grades 9 and 10) and senior student data (11, 12, 12+) as per scheduled dates. Funding will be allocated to English Language boards, grades 7-12 only The School Effectiveness Framework and Leads - $ 167, Responsibility: School Effectiveness Leader: Joanne Querel Code #0775 Funding supports one School Effectiveness Lead in each board and release time for staff engaged in school and district reviews. Teacher Learning & Leadership Program - $ Responsibility: School Effectiveness Leader: Joanne Querel Code #0797 This is a project to enhance teacher learning and research to improve student achievement. Blended Learning - $40, Responsibility: MISA System Data Coordinator: Mike Belluz Code #0799 The project will allow grades 7 & 8 teachers to work together using e-learning tools to enhance teacher instruction and improve student achievement in the classroom
