Required Course Materials: WebAssign Account: All homework will be completed using WebAssign, which in an online homework management system. 1. Go to 2. However, graphing calculators will NOT be allowed on any of the exams. Computer Access: Computer with internet access. Ability to fax/scan/ legible papers. Evaluation Instruments: Four major tests will be given during the semester. The exams must be completed in a District- Approved testing center. The exams are pencil-and-paper (NOT on the computer) and require you to show all work for full credit. The exams will have no time-limit. You MUST me where and when you take each exam. Homework will be assigned through WebAssign. Comprehensive Final Exam Calculation of Grade: Your Final exam can replace your lowest test. Students desiring to take the exams at other than a Lone Star site should check the following link for a list of approved sites If you plan to use a testing center that is not affiliated with Lone Star College, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure it meets the following criteria: (1) A picture ID is required. (2) All testing must be proctored. (3) ed tests are accepted from the instructor. (4) The Center can fax the completed exam to the instructor or can scan and attach the completed exam to an and send it to the instructor. (In each case, the entire exam must be legible to the instructor.) (5) If a faxed or ed completed exam is not adequately legible for it to be graded, the Testing Center must send the original to the instructor. The student may be asked to provide a pre-addressed envelope (large enough for the test and any additional work) and adequate postage.

3 If you wish to test at a Testing Center location other than a Lone Star College System Campus, you will need to send me the contact information for that location at least one week in advance so that I can verify that the site is acceptable and can send them the exam. Contact information needed: name of the facility, contact person s name, , and phone number, plus the street address and the building and room location. Be sure to check your chosen testing center for current testing hours. Department Information: Department of Mathematics LSC-North Harris My Supervisor Vice President of Instruction: Dr. Tosha Barclay Course Objectives: To develop an understanding of the concepts of limit, derivative and integral To develop the student's skill in techniques of differentiation and integration of functions To enhance the student's knowledge of functions and their graphs by use of the calculus as a tool To develop the student's ability to use the calculus as an aid in graphing To demonstrate the relevancy of the calculus as a problem solver in many business oriented applications General Course Outline: Textbook chapters/sections: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, (Omit section 6.7) Reference Materials and Resources: A number of resources are available to you in WebAssign, including videotapes of individual topics, and other study aids. I encourage you to visit me online for help or clarification of questions you may have. I will also post Lecture Videos and Lecture Notes. Math Lab Tutoring Hours: Each Lone Star campus offers free tutoring for math students. Please check with the campus most convenient to you for location and hours. Withdrawal Policy/Student Drop Limit: Students that just stop participating in the class and don t officially withdraw will receive an F for the course. Students who enrolled in Texas public institutions of higher education as first-time college students during the Fall 2007 term or later are subject to section of the Texas Education Code, which states that an institution of higher education may not permit a student to drop (withdraw with a grade of W ) from more than six courses. This sixcourse limit includes courses that a transfer student has previously dropped at other Texas public institutions of higher education if they fall under the law. Students should be sure they fully understand this drop limit before they drop a course. Please visit the admissions office or counseling/advising center for additional information and assistance. * It is the responsibility of the student to drop a class by W day if he/she desires. 5 Campus Carry Law The Texas Legislature enacted campus carry by passing Senate Bill 11, effective at LSC on August 1, Senate Bill 11, known as the Campus Carry law, amends Texas law to allow license holders to carry concealed handguns on college campuses. To carry a concealed handgun on LSC campuses, an individual must have a valid License to Carry issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety. LSC has established rules and regulations regarding enforcement of Campus Carry. Lone Star College prohibits concealed carry in some areas of LSC campuses. For more information about Campus Carry, visit the LSC Campus Carry website at If you see a gun, call the LSC Police Department. The same thing you would do before the law went into effect Call the LSC Police Department at (x5911 from any campus phone) or pick up a direct-dial classroom wall phone. The law only allows concealed carry. If you see a firearm, that is a violation of the law. Do not take matters into your own hands. Only the LSC Police should confront someone to determine if they are legally in possession of a firearm.
