2 1.JOIN A CLASS and REDEEM AN AUTHORIZATION CODE To join a class, simply go to class.betterchinese.com and log into your account. You need to register a new account if you don t have one. Leave this field blank when you login Register a new account here Now click on Join Class to input your Class Code. The Class Code will be provided by your teacher. You can redeem your authorization code by clicking on Subscription. If you have a physical textbook or workbook, on the bottom right corner of the inside of the back cover, you can find an unique authorization code. By redeeming it, you will get a two-year access to its associated resources. If you purchased online workbook, we will send you an authorization code via . 2

3 2. LOG-IN To access your account, simply go to Click on My Online Lessons Login drop-down menu and select Modern Chinese to log-in. Now log in with your username and password. You can also bookmark this page (mc.betterchinese.com) for faster access in the future We also have an ipad app called Modern Chinese. Simply download it to your ipad and you can easily access your account on fingertips. 3

4 3. NAVIGATION Once you log in, you will see below page. Prelude introduces the PinYin romanization system. It also provides PinYin practices. Textbook resource, such as illustration, animation, vocab list, etc. are mainly displayed here. To get additional textbook resource and workbook resource (handwriting sheets and workbook audio) here. A dash board of your last access and total study time. To do your assignment, check your assignment result and view your teacher s announcement. Only available when you have access to e-textbooks. 5 Modern Chinese Online Workbook 4.TEXTBOOK RESOURCE Once you redeem the authorization code on your physical textbook (or if you purchase the e-textbook), you will get access to textbook resource. Each lesson contains a variety of components: Lesson Goals, Lesson Animation, Lesson Illustration, Lesson Text, and Vocabulary list. Tap to navigate back to main page and to get quick access to other lessons: View Options: Easily turn on and off PinYin and/or English translation. 5

6 5.WORKBOOK RESOURCE Once you redeem the authorization code on your physical workbook (or if you purchase the online interactive workbook or the e-workbook), you will get access to workbook resource. Teacher s Assignments: Click on Assignment a list of teacher s assignments. If the assignment only contains multiple choices, once you submit, you will see your score here. If the assignment contains open ended questions, you need to wait for your teacher s comments. Teacher s comment (if there is any) will be displayed in details. Make sure you start (and submit) your assignment before due date. *Features of this section can only be accessed by purchasing online workbooks. 7
