esis Gradebook Setup 1) Go to From the Student Menu choose Logins > esis Production. The following screen should appear. username:your last name underscore your first initial EXAMPLE username: schmoe_j password: ###### Database: prod 2) Type in your username and password. 3) Click Connect 4) If the following screen appears click Check All and OK. If not go to the next step. If recent changes have been made to your class list this window will appear. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 1
The Teacher Assist Main Screen Initial Setup of the Gradebook: 1. On the Main screen click Setup Options. You only need to do this at the beginning of a new school year. You can always go back and change all the prefs except the Mark Calculation Method and the Posting Type. 2. Click Preferences. These preferences are for your entire gradebook, not one particular course. 3. The only 2 tabs that are essential are My Options and My Preps. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 2
Only check this if you are weighting your assessment types My Options: Mark Calculation Method: Total Points 2. Posting Type: Report Cycle 3. Check: Use Assessment weights (Allows you to weight individual assignments) 4. Use Assessment type weights (Allows you to weight a type of assignment such as homework, tests, quizzes, etc.) Only check this if you are going to weight your assessment types. If you check it and do NOT weight the assessment types it will incorrectly average your grades. 5. Use Strand Weights: Leave blank. 6. View Report Cycle Weights: Check this so that you can see the weights assigned by your administrator for the reporting cycle (Marking period 1, 2, exams, etc) a. View: An administrator has set the marking period weights. b. Use: The teacher has been given the power to change the marking period weights. 7. Leave blank: TAVG% Include weight. 8. Default order of assessments by due date: select the order in which your assignments appear. (Ascending or descending by due date). Ascending means the oldest assignment is to the left similar to what would be in your paper gradebook. 9. Numeric score default: Type in the total points number to serve as the default. This should be the number you use most often. You cannot have a zero or a blank in here. If you use percentages a lot you may want to put 100 here. 10. Failure Threshold: Type the score that counts as the lowest D in your building. This must be a whole number. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 3
11. Default Display Assessment: The number of assignments on the screen display. A good choice would be to put 50 here. 12. Delete assessments at year end: Leave blank if you want to use these preferences from this year to the next year. 13. Other Settings Recommendations: Check Share if you want other teachers to be able to view the grades of a shared student. Rounding Marks: Check this to round your grades. Count blank marks as zeros. If this is checked then blanks in the gradebook count as a 0 and greatly affects the student s grade until they complete the assignment. If this is unchecked the missing assignment is not averaged in and thus not counting against the student. You can print a missing assignments report. There is also a button called Missing Marks that brings up all students missing assignments so that you can enter their grades. 14. When done click the floppy disk to save and the door to exit. My Preps Do Not type anything here!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If this is blank click ADD. If you have an old Prep, click on the name and press the Detail button. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 4
The first time through - Basic Description of Prep: Name this My Gradebook. Once this is saved you will have to go to the Details button on the previous screen to return to this screen. 1. Prep Classes -- Every year you must select the classes for using the gradebook. For returning users this may be the only thing you need to do on this screen. Click Select Classes. All of your Courses will show. Click all courses for which you give a grade. You may not want to click a study hall, etc. Click OK 2. Prep Strand Click the Add Button. Type All in the first line and put a check in the Default box. There will be a box for weighting if you chose to weight assessment types. Weights must total Prep Assessment Types. Click Add. Check the types of assignments that you will be giving. If you are going to weight assignments click only those you will really use. If you chose earlier to weight assessment types, this is where the weighting is entered. If you chose not to weight assessment types, you will not have a weight column. Enter the weights for each category if you want to weight. They must equal 100. Check Default next to the assessment type that you will use most often. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 5
Prep Classes Report Cycles This is set up by your administrators and you may not be able to change it. It shows the weights for the calculation of semester and final grades. If you do not give semester exams the weighting will not affect the final semester average. My Comments Tab Can enter comments that appear in your gradebook. They only appear in your gradebook and are not printed on the report card. They will print on an individual student progress report and appear in the Parent Module. Marked Scale Set up at the building level by the administrator. You may not have the ability to change this. When done setting up the gradebook click the floppy disk to save and then the door to exit. TCESC esis Gradebook Setup 9/6/2007 Page 6
