EDUC 7403 Teaching & Learning with Technology (TET) 3 Graduate credit Hours Cost $270 for Non-Degree Schedule: online for 8 Weeks, March 7 April 30, 2016 CRN: Course Description: This course assists candidates in understanding the role of educational technology in the teaching and learning process. Initially, course content presents the relationship of technology to key learning theories, learner characteristics, and teaching styles. The course then presents development tools, such as multimedia tools and web-based construction, and instructional software to enhance conceptual understanding and demonstrate understanding of academic content. Candidates study learner-centered strategies that place students at the center of considerations in planning for authentic learning experiences. EDUC 7133 Ethical World Views 3 Graduate credit Hours Cost $170 for Non-Degree Schedule: online for 8 Weeks, March 7 April 30, 2016 CRN: Course Description: This course introduces candidates to the blended/hybrid learning environment. Course content covers its foundations, pedagogy, methodology, the social and ethical issues of acquiring and implementing high-quality resources, and technology operations and concepts. The course aligns to the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). Course content examines the role and best practices for different types of delivery systems, specifically to blended educational settings.

Tuition $ per course EDCI 8980 CRN: Supporting Phonemic Awareness with State Standards (3- Credit) is a seven-week course designed to provide educators with an understanding of phonemic awareness and approaches for promoting these skills in their classrooms based on State Standards. Participants will focus on effective methods for assessing students phonemic awareness abilities and will learn to create activities to strengthen their proficiency levels. This course will culminate with the development of individual plans to incorporate phonemic awareness activities into the curriculum already being utilized by schools. EDCI 8981 CRN: Instructing Phonics and Spelling with State Standards (3- Credit) is a seven-week course designed to teach educators the importance of direct phonics instruction as a part of a complete literacy program for all students. Participants will be introduced to various approaches to phonics instruction, technology tools to help them teach phonics effectively, and strategies to remediate phonics instruction for struggling readers. The course offers a highly structured approach to teaching phonics and spelling based on a variety of proven programs and approaches designed for teachers. Educators dive deep into the State Standards throughout the course enabling them to address the standards using the curriculum within his or her own teaching environment.

3 EDCI 8982 CRN: Developing Comprehension with State Standards (3- Credit) is a seven-week course designed to teach educators how to assess student comprehension, develop a plan for instruction, and implement the State Standards to achieve student comprehension success. Research-based assessments and approaches are taught and practiced throughout. This course provides teachers with the tools and knowledge they need to offer up-to-the-minute comprehension instruction using readily available technology. EDCI 8983 CRN: Increasing Fluency with State Standards (3-Credit) is a seven-week course designed to teach educators how to assess student fluency, develop a plan for instruction, monitor fluency, and implement the State Standards to achieve student fluency success. Podcasts and other voice thread tools are used to assess, demonstrate, and practice fluency. Some of the approaches to building fluency that are taught in the course are: repeated readings, partner readings, graphic organizers building in SSR time throughout the day, and reciprocal reading. This course is appropriate for all professionals in K-12 with an emphasis on remediation students in fourth grade and above. EDCI 8984 CRN: Building Vocabulary with State Standards (3-Credit) is a seven-week course that will further participants knowledge of how to assess and teach vocabulary while creating a scope and sequence relevant to their current school curriculum. Participants will gain access to technology tools and a variety of activities to implement in the classroom. EDCI 8985 CRN: Integrating Five Core Reading Skills with State Standards (3-Credit) is a seven-week course that reviews each of the essential reading skills and provides techniques, assessments, technology tools, and strategies to integrate instruction that will further develop all five essential components. Knowledge gained from this course can be used to modify current ELA curriculum to teach all five reading skills simultaneously while saving instructional time. EDCI 9191 CRN: Close Reading with Standards (3-Credit) is divided into ten one-week sessions and a session that introduces the Cumulative Course Assessment Product (CCAP). Close Reading is a difficult practice to learn, even for experienced, adult readers. However, as we help our students approach text through a close reading lens, we will fulfill the expectations of the CCSS with all students. Close Reading can be extremely engaging, productive and confidence-boosting for the struggling reader and the advanced reader alike.

5 Certificate Programs TEFL Certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) Do you work in a setting where you are teaching English or working with others who are English language learners? Do you want to travel internationally and teach English? The process of teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) requires a specific set of skills. You will be more successful if you have these skills and have had an opportunity to practice their use. MNU s TEFL certificate is designed to give you this skill set in a practical, online setting. The course of study for the TEFL certificate will also prepare you to work in ESOL programs in the United States. Overview The TEFL Certificate is designed to provide you with a skill and knowledge base to teach English as a Foreign Language in nations around the globe. The six, three credit hour courses can be taken as a stand-alone certificate program. A teaching certificate is not required as this certificate program is open to anyone interested in learning how to teach English as a Foreign Language. The coursework is designed to provide an opportunity to understand elements of effective TEFL instruction, multicultural considerations, linguistic structures, and assessment. This certificate program is 18 credit hours. Our student-focused approach means you will build personal relationships with highly qualified professors, complete work that will directly apply to your work situation, and have the flexibility afforded by online learning. You'll engage in real-time webcasts with instructors throughout the program using virtual collaboration tools like Adobe Connect, allowing for asynchronous and synchronous learning each week. In the end, you ll enhance your career by learning how to effectively teach English as a foreign language. Courses The certificate program costs are $380 per credit hour. Each course is 3 credit hours. ESOL 6003: METHODS AND INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS FOR THE ELL This course will explore topics relating to methodology and instructional practices for the ELL. Topics include: methods, materials and instructional techniques in the school setting; strategies for native language support; curricular and instructional accommodations and modifications; and literacy methodologies for ELLs.

6 ESOL 6203: MULTI-CULTURAL AWARENESS IN EDUCATION The diverse and rich tapestry of cultures represented in the schools of the 21st century. It will present techniques and content for interacting in a multicultural educational settings. ESOL 6303: LINGUISTICS FOR ESL Areas in the scientific study of language include phonology, morphology, syntax and traditional, structural and transformational grammars. Application for English for Speakers of Other languages will be emphasized. ESOL 6403: ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION FOR THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER An overview of assessment issues relating to formal and informal first and second language assessment instruments and techniques will be provided in this course. ESOL 6503: PRACTICUM WITH ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS The practicum is a supervised, field-based experience in the education of English Language Learners grounded in a best-practices environment (45 hours). It is specifically designed to further develop and expand the practitioner s knowledge and ability to be an effective ESL teacher. ESOL 6603 TEACHING ENGLISH AS AN INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGE (3 credit hours) Many now consider English to be an international language or the lingua franca in many situations. There are currently more non-native speakers of English in the world than there are native speakers. This course examines the opportunities to teach English to populations outside of the K-12 U.S. population. Areas explored include teaching English as an international or as a foreign language (TEFL), teaching adults, and teaching in alternative settings. Requirements Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or above in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework. Official transcripts of all post-secondary course work. Overview TOC Program (Teaching Online Certificate) The Teaching Online Certificate (TOC) is designed as a stand alone program for anyone interesting in learning how to offer training or teach in an online environment or for those in the TET program seeking this additional certificate. With the addition of one three credit hour course, students in the TET program can earn the TOC. To complete coursework related to this certificate one is not required to be in the TET program. The four, three credit hour courses can be taken as a stand alone certificate program. A teaching certificate is not required as this certificate program is open to anyone interested in learning how to teach in a virtual environment. The coursework is designed to provide an opportunity to help instructors understand the many facets of online learning, both in terms of structural and pedagogical considerations. These four

7 courses offer training in course design, blended learning characteristics, electronic learning environments and online assessment. This certificate is 12 credit hours. Courses The certificate program costs are $380 per credit hour. Each course is 3 credit hours. EDUC 7303: TECHNOLOGY-ENHANCED LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS This course considers the many aspects of technology-enhanced environments and the management strategies that contribute to a positive classroom environment and help facilitate access to technology. Candidates learn considerations for creating appropriate learning activities for students of diverse learning styles, stages of development, and cultural backgrounds. Candidates develop skills in using both input and output devices in their classrooms. They develop lesson plans and a comprehensive classroom technology management plan using multiple strategies for locating and supporting their technology resources to meet the diverse and specialized needs of students. EDUC : BLENDED LEARNING This course introduces candidates to the blended/hybrid learning environment. EDUC 7503: TECHNOLGY-FACILITATED ASSESSMENT This course overviews assessment principles and practices and emphasizes assessments integral role in teaching and learning. Course content highlights international and national high stakes testing. Candidates apply technology to facilitate a variety of effective assessment and evaluation strategies and learn the importance of establishing credible performance standards and communicating candidates progress in accomplishing these standards. EDUC 7703: PRINCIPLES OF ONLINE COURSE DEVELOPMENT*: This course introduces students to the resources, techniques, and practices of teaching and learning in the P-12 online environment. *not part of the TET program Requirements o o o Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
