1 Professional Development Workshops Summer 2017 Purpose of Professional Development Workshops: Central Community College (CCC) provides skill-based workshops for high school educators within our 25 county district area to learn techniques and procedures taught at college level. These professional development workshops will help educators prepare future CCC students for college coursework. Cap: These workshops have limited space (max seating is on far right column (cap). Be sure to register early. Cost: High School Educator must pay for workshop at the time they register. The (cost) is on far right column. Stipend: Who will receive the stipend? High School Educators who teach within the same discipline area as the workshop High School Tech Prep Coordinators High School Counselors High School Early College Contact Those who qualify will receive a stipend of $25 per hour if they attend each day for the entire time. All high school educators are welcome to register for these workshops, although they will not receive a stipend unless the workshop aligns within their discipline teaching area. How to Register: 1. Sign up and pay on-line (have credit card/debit card ready) Go to: > select menu > Gain New Skills > HS Professional Development Workshops: 1) Complete the form 2) Select the workshop(s) you plan to attend 3) Add cost of workshops and type in Total Amount (at the top of form) 4) Select Submit (If confirmation page does not appear, complete the fields in red.) 5) Confirm your registration ( Payment Amount needs to equal workshop(s) amount) 6) Select Pay 7) Thank you for registering page will appear. You will receive an confirmation. You also have the option to print this page. 2. Register by May 19th Registrations received after Friday, May 19 may not receive a seat or stipend, if applicable. Room: 105 Date Time May (1-day TITLE OF WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION Cap Cost Stipend AUTO Instructor-Teacher Workshop Instructors: Kyle Finecy, Nicholas Kelley & John Oberheide This workshop will give high school educators the opportunity to earn the Snap-On 596 Automotive Multimeter Certification from NC3 (National Coalition of Certified Centers). This certification will include: Multimeter controls and navigation Meter display readings and symbols Importance of proper terminal connections Basic applications Troubleshooting techniques Hands-on operation of Snap-on Multimeter model: EEDM596D Lab exercises Online testing After successful completion of this certification, there will be a round table discussion including: CCC High School Career Pathway Partnerships, Classroom Instructional Methods, and Technology Usage in Today s Automotive Technology Classrooms. (All participates please bring a laptop for course materials and testing) $29 $0 AMDT 7004 Hamilton Room: AMDT Lab Area May 30-June (3-day AMDT Teacher-Trainer Workshop Instructors: Bruce Bartos & Brian Davis & Troy Davis This workshop will give high school educators a chance to learn various skills on using a variety of equipment. We will cover: Measurement, Manual Lathe and Mill, Surface Grinding, Basic CNC on both Lathe and Mill, which include machine setup, tool offsets, programming and operation. We will answer questions about problems experienced while using the equipment or about any CCC s program of study. $59 $450

3 BTEC 7002 NECE Room: 941 & 942 May MOS Specialist Certification(s) Instructors: Janis DeHaven & Renae Allen Microsoft Certification practice and proctoring for either 2013 or 2016 Office Suite products. This two-day workshop is for those who are a little familiar with Microsoft software who need sufficient amount of time to train before they test for their certification(s). Individuals will participate in the Microsoft Office Software Exam Prep Sessions, which will include test simulation software, question and answer sessions with BTEC instructors, prepping and testing, and the opportunity to sit for the MOS certification(s). They can test on all five software s at the specialist or expert level. Discussion will also take place regarding how students will benefit with these certifications as they continue to the workforce or furthering their higher education goals. $54 $400 NOTE: To utilize our vouchers for the IT Initiatives the participants will need to have a CCC ID. AGRI 7016 CG100 Grand Island Room: 525 May 31-June Introduction to Precision Agriculture Instructors: Amy Novak & Jerry Dunn Introduction to the concepts of precision agriculture, the tools of precision agriculture and how they work together. GIS, GPS, remote sensing, water management, VRT (variable rate technologies) and their role in managing and monitoring crops. A special section on drones will also be included. Be sure to bring your classroom drone, if you have one, for a roundtable discussion. Several activities will be show-cased for high school classroom replication and lesson plan building. 30 $44 $300 CRIM 7001 CG100 Grand Island Room: 311 May 31-June (1 hr. working lunch) Fact or Fiction, Dispelling the CSI and Law and Order Mystique Instructor: Lauri Shultis Whether you are discussing the death penalty in a class, advising a student on how to pursue a career in the Law & Public Safety sector, or you find yourself acting as a counselor for a student who has been involved in delinquent behavior having a working knowledge of today s legal system could definitely prove beneficial in the field of education. Fact or Fiction, Dispelling the CSI and Law and Order Mystique is a workshop designed to give participants a working knowledge of the criminal justice system. Participants will spend time in the classroom each morning learning about the criminal justice system and then apply what they learn on field trips to local CJ agencies & facilities in Grand Island. This will allow participants to experience all aspects of the legal system from both the professional and the accused points of view. Tours include: Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center, Hall County Department of Corrections (Jail Tour), Grand Island Police Dept., Hall County Sheriff Office, Emergency Communication Center (911) and Hall County Court. 20 $54 $400

5 INDT 7010 DSGN 7005 North Ed Center Room: 920 Hamilton Room: 2 Drafting Lab June :30-4:30 (1/2 hr. lunch) (Lunch will be provided) June 13-8:30-3:30 (3-day Mechatronics / Instrumentation Professional Development Bootcamp Instructors: Adam Whitmore & Doug Pauley & Dan Davidchik Drafting & Design Curriculum Workshop Instructors: Gene Friesen, Renee DeWyke & Amy Stuart Individuals will have the opportunity to work on basic electrical circuits, typically part of Concepts of Electronics. They will also be exposed to Pneumatics and Electrical Pneumatics. Teachers and Administrators will be able to understand how they might be able to offer dual credit courses related to Mechatronics in their schools. Workshops will feature career awareness topics such as, the skills and aptitudes required to enter Mechatronics/Instrumentation and Controls careers, job responsibilities, industries that hire Instrumentation and Controls/Mechatronics graduates, average wages, and career growth opportunities. Participants will tour a business or two and experience what an Instrumentation and Controls/ Mechatronics technician does on a day-to-day basis. This will give faculty the opportunity to connect to industry representatives who can then support them in their classrooms as guest speakers and other career awareness activities. This experience not only increases the faculty participant s ability to better prepare students, but has the potential to increase the number of high school students entering Instrumentation and Controls/Mechatronics programs, as faculty members are often key mentors for high school students.
