1 LEVEL 5 DIPLOMA IN PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC COUNSELLING (INTEGRATIVE ROUTE) PC-L5 CPCAB ACCREDITED Designed For Designed for candidates who want to train to become independent autonomous practitioners and gain the necessary skills and qualification to pursue their counselling ambition. You will deepen your understanding of the profession, including; the counselling relationship, client assessments and integrated theoretical approaches. You will gain the expertise and qualification to work in independent practice, or take a senior counselling role within an agency. The course is suitable for students progressing from Level 4. It will add to your existing knowledge and prepare you for employment. The qualification you gain can also count towards a Foundation Degree in Counselling. Successful completion of this course means that you will be able to work as an independent professional counselling practitioner. The CPCAB Diploma has achieved recognition from the Open University and counts as 30 credits towards a foundation degree in counselling. The student will be awarded the Level 5 Diploma in Counselling (PC-L5) which is accredited by Ofqual into the QCF. Details can be viewed on CPCAB s website: Criteria for selecting candidates

The emphasis is on working with a humanistic as a core model and exploring the integration of theory, research, practice, and self-awareness. The integrative counselling aspect explores, challenges and compares contemporary theories to life. It also addresses the thinking, feeling, and behavioural aspects of human functioning. The integrative perspective draws from a range of theoretical orientations including: Person Centred, Psychoanalytic, Adlerian, Existential, Gestalt, Transaction Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural therapy. The course is designed to help develop and train counsellors to become competent and ethically-sound practitioners. The ultimate aims are to equip counsellors with the tools and interventions they require to develop their own styles, enabling them to work with clients experiencing a range of common life problems to more complex issues. Units of study Work safely, legally and ethically as a counsellor Work with complex aspects of the counselling relationship Use theory and research to work with client diversity in independent practice Use a coherent approach to respond to the needs of the individual clients Work with self-awareness as an independent practitioner Use theory, research and skills within a coherent framework for independent counselling practice Monitor and maintain professional effectiveness as a counsellor in independent practice

3 Assessment (L5) Assessment will be both external and internal; You will be required to write a word structured case review, which will be externally assessed. Complete 60 hours minimum of one-to-one, formally contracted counselling as practitioner; exercising autonomy in your role as counsellor and carry the responsibility for assessment. This could be as a senior practitioner in an agency/organisation or working as a private practitioner working for an external organisation, a counsellor working for an Employee Assistance Programme or a counsellor in private practice. You will also be required to complete a minimum of 10 hours of personal counselling therapy (total of 40 hours from level 4 to end of level 5). Supervision requirements - Supervision in the form of either group or one-to-one supervision to meet BACP minimum requirements (min 10 hours). Internal assessment: You will be expected to build a portfolio (fortnightly). The three assessment methods used throughout the training are Review of Documents, Tutor Observation and Testimony in order to meet the course criterion. You will also be expected to include a review of a 15-minute transcript of clinical work. Research and additional homework is expected to help you achieve the necessary learning level and criterion. Course level (L5) Advanced Entry Requirement (L5) Minimum age of entry 22 years. Hold a CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling or Recognised Prior Learning (RPL). You must have completed at least 30 hours of personal therapy. You will be asked to attend an interview, where your readiness to progress to independent practitioner status will be discussed. You will need to provide references from your most recent tutor and your clinical supervisor. Delivery The course is delivered through a blend of the following:

4 Presentations Personal Development discussions Lectures Coursework Case studies Skills Practice Research Homework Projects Practical Activities Fees (L5) Training cost: The training costs includes tuition fees, course hand-outs and tutorials. (Text books are excluded). In addition, you are required to pay the CPCAB Candidate Registration fee of Fees can be paid in full prior to the commencement of the course. A monthly payment plan is available. Registration ( 300 as above) and a deposit of 350 is required on the start date. Fees can be paid by cheque, cash or standing order. Additional Costs met by students (L5) Personal therapy min 10 hours with a BACP accredited Counsellor / Psychotherapist Supervision costs (1 ½ hrs per month or in line with BACP guidelines). Membership of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or a similar recognised association. Professional indemnity insurance.

5 Location (L5) Set in a quiet country location, although very close to Shirley / Earlswood and just off junction 4 M42. Ample car parking, rail and bus links nearby. Accreditation (L5) This is a Counselling and Psychotherapy Central Awarding Body (CPCAB) course, which is accredited by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual) into the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
