3 Online Private Tutoring Instructions 5 #1: Join.me Join.me is the program we use to communicate with our students. It is free for computer to computer calls over the internet! With your private tutor or test-prep instructor, you can: talk voice-to-voice via your phone or through the internet type messages via IMs write on the screen share your screen to show files, websites, images, and even what you are writing (with additional doc camera - see pg. 9) and more! Note: to take advantage of speaking through the computer if you do not want to use your phone, you will need a microphone (luckily, this is built into most newer computers now) How good is this to facilitate tutoring? Many of our students report online tutoring being even more effective than in-person because of all the resources at their finger tips without the loss of seeing and hearing each other and viewing materials! Plus, it is in the comfort of your own home! See the next page for how to get started with Join.me.

4 Online Private Tutoring Instructions 6 Getting Join.me Free Here are the steps to follow to get started: Click here: Then click on the orange start meeting button --> Next, you will be prompted to dowload the Join.Me application to your computer. Click Save File. (This may look different depending on if you are using a PC or Mac). Be sure to save it to an easy-tofind place!

5 Next, you will need to open Join.Me application from your computer. *Depending on your computer, you may have it saved on the desktop or Applications folder or elsewhere. But be sure to launch it from the computer. Online Private Tutoring Instructions 7 Now you can start using Join.Me! Enter in the 9 digit number that your tutor gives you when he/she calls into the box to the right of the green join and click the green arrow. Now I am in! This blue ice background is the desktop of a tutor s! I can see the tutor s screen and anything he/she pulls up. From here, the tutor can open a PPT to teach me lessons...or a website to share a math tool...or the document camera to show what he/she is writing!

6 Online Private Tutoring Instructions 8 Cool Free Features in Join.me Here are some neat features you and your tutor can use as you work together: First off, this little bar at the top is your main tool bar for Join.Me. --> The phone symbol lets you connect a call via internet to talk with your tutor without a phone. (Or you can just talk phone to phone.) The talk bubble lets you instant message your tutor (or other students if there were others in a session). Click the person button to see other viewers. The 2 in this case shows there are just 2 viewers. Click + button to get even more interactive options. The call by phone feature is great for 3 or more people on the line - everyone calls into one number and can talk via the conference line. This feature is extra helpful when there are multiple people on a conference call and you want to ask the tutor/ instructor something privately. Here you can: - request mouse control of the screen - request the presenter role (which shows YOUR screen and doc camera to the tutor) - request to annotate (which will let you write on the screen)

7 Online Private Tutoring Instructions 9 #2 Document Camera Software from IPEVO How to use the document camera to be able to share your class materials and what you are writing with your tutor! Once you get the IPEVO document camera in the mail, you will want to make sure your computer is ready to use it. Follow these steps! Download the application by clicking here: IPEVO Support There are three options. Pick the first if you have a Mac and the second if you have a PC. Allow the file to be downloaded and saved to your computer. Be sure to save it in an easy-tofind spot. Then open the application from your computer!

9 Online Private Tutoring Instructions 11 #3 Get started with tutoring! You are now ready to go with online tutoring! With your Join.Me account and document camera, you are now able to: talk with your tutor voice to voice see your tutor and let your tutor see you (just point the document camera at your smiling face! :)) share class notes, text books, assignments, quizzes, tests with your tutor work out practice problems while your tutor watches and can give you feedback watch your tutor work out problems to demonstrate a concept share your computer screen see your tutor s computer screen annotate/write on each other s screens quickly look up information online to support your learning pull up your detailed grade report from your school s website to go over with your tutor and more!
