1 Careers ducation Co-ordinator Ref: SS The Appointment: The Careers ducation Co-ordinator will be responsible for the planning of a structured careers programme for students. The postholder will oversee the planning of the work of the Progress Tutors which will involve organising the allocation of student group case-loads and identifying and arranging relevant staff training. The postholder will be responsible for sourcing and producing resources for progress sessions, including centralised schemes of work and session plans. The postholder will also contribute to the planning of cross-college activities related to progression and welfare in liaison with the Student ngagement, Health and Wellbeing, Welfare and Guidance Officers. In addition the postholder will have an appropriate caseload of students to fulfil the Progress Tutor role as described below. Responsible to: The postholder will be responsible to the Assistant Principal Curriculum and Quality. The Post: Progress Coordinator role 1. To take a lead role in developing and delivering a comprehensive, timely and structured Careers ducation programme, including careers events, working closely with the Head of Central Services. 2. To produce and publish the programme of cross College activities relating to careers events. 3. To review, update and implement policies and procedures relating to Careers ducation, Attendance and Anti-bullying. 4. To produce reports for Careers for monitoring at CT and to liaise with the Assistant Principal Curriculum and Quality for the production of committee and Governor reports as appropriate. 5. To undertake quality assurance processes to ensure continuous improvement and enhancement of the careers education programme. 6. To oversee the capture, monitoring and review of student destination data. 7. To contribute towards the planning and delivery of the College induction programme. 8. To produce schemes of work and session plans for Progress sessions.

2 9. To identify and develop a bank of careers and Progress resources. 10. To work with the Director of Teaching and Learning and Sixth Form Studies and the Assistant Principal Curriculum and Quality to embed a whole College approach to themed events, e.g. & D, curriculum events. 11. To contribute to the planning of cross-college activities related to progression and welfare in liaison with Progress Tutors, Student ngagement, Health and Wellbeing, Welfare and Guidance Officers. 12. To prepare resources for students, parents and carers including students guides, parents guides and careers information. 13. To organise the allocation of student caseload for Progress Tutors in collaboration with Heads of Department responsible for study programmes. 14. To identify development / support needs for Progress Tutors and arrange training in collaboration with the Staff Development Coordinator. 15. To provide and promote an individualised support service to meet the needs of students including progress and welfare. 16. To organise and deliver higher education awareness events including UCAS workshops. 17. To liaise with the Head of Higher ducation to support the development of the tutorial programme and transitional arrangements for students progressing to H. 18. To organise and schedule cross College events and trips which support positive progression, e.g. Get Into events. 19. To chair monthly meetings with the Progress Tutors as identified on the College calendar. 20. To be involved in case conferences and conduct hearings as appropriate. 21. To meet monthly with the Heads of Department for student / course progress updates, to include attendance and support. 22. Attend network meetings as directed by the Assistant Principal Curriculum and Quality. 23. Provide cover for Progress Tutors as required. 24. To actively promote the College s quality and Diversity and Safeguarding policies and contribute to the delivery of staff development including annual safeguarding updates. 25. To represent the department at cross College meetings e.g. quality and Diversity. 26. To contribute to cross College development activities including: nrolment

3 Admissions College based promotional events Off-site promotional events 27. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post which may, from time to time be required. 28. Progress Tutor role: The postholder will have an appropriate caseload of students, fulfilling the Progress Tutor role as described below: To deliver themed group sessions as directed. To schedule, manage and record (on Promonitor) a case load of three high quality one-toone reviews, setting clear targets to encourage high attendance, high achievement and positive progression. To contribute towards the delivery of bespoke workshops to aid progression. To contribute towards the delivery of the College induction programme. To operate the College s Maintaining Student Responsibility policy. Monitor student attendance in line with College targets, setting improvement targets for students where necessary. To liaise with course teams and undertake systematic reviewing of student progress and welfare. Contribute to student reports and review with students on a one-to-one basis. Liaise with parents including the promotion of the parent portal use. To support students in appropriate aspects of progression planning, including UCAS, Apprenticeship and employment. To regularly attend Department and team meetings and relevant staff development. To provide references for students as applicable. To liaise with Student ngagement Officers, Learning Support, and other internal and external agencies as appropriate. Attend scheduled parents evenings and promotional College events. To provide information relating to course or College wide events. To actively promote and contribute to the Learner Voice mechanisms Although predominantly in the identified department, the post holder may be required to work across other departments where required. The post holder may be required to cover additional classes during the year, to cover staff shortages / sickness where appropriate. Administrative tasks as appropriate to the post. The above duties are indicative of the requirements of the post at the time of recruitment. It is management policy that roles and responsibilities are reviewed on a regular basis leading to possible modifications where appropriate. Staff may be asked to undertake other duties as may be reasonably required commensurate with the post, at the initial place of work or at other locations from which the College operates.

4 The Person: The successful candidate will be the one whose professional and personal qualities correlate most closely with the following profile: Qualifications & Training: An appropriate teacher training certificate (or a willingness to work towards) ssential/ Desirable Method of Assessment Degree or equivalent A Level 2 Qualification in Numeracy and Literacy A Have undertaken safeguarding training in the last 12 months A Level 3 Support or Careers Qualification D A Skills and Abilities: xcellent communication / interpersonal skills. AS/I Ability to empathise with students and their needs. A/I Ability to generate and prioritise own workload. A/I Ability to work collaboratively internally and externally. A Ability to achieve objectives and meet targets. I Ability to interpret data effectively to support quality improvement. I Commitment to equal opportunities and continuous improvement. Demonstration of leadership skills I xperience and knowledge: A minimum of 3 years experience in delivering relevant student support A A minimum of 3 years experience of working in F A A minimum of 3 years experience of working with students aged A/I A minimum of 3 years teaching or tutorial experience D A Good knowledge of current trends in education and F in particular I Good knowledge of careers education including external benchmarks I/As A commitment to support students in terms of retention and I achievement. 5 Summary of the Terms and Conditions of mployment: The post is offered on the Southport College contract for newly appointed lecturers. This consists of a normal working week of 35 hours, comprising duties consistent with the position of lecturer, and a holiday entitlement of 40 days (280 hours) plus Bank Holidays. In addition there are a possible 5 extra days (35 hours) holiday awarded at the discretion of the College for efficiency purposes. The post holder will be eligible to contribute automatically to the Teachers Pension Scheme. Details of the scheme in operation can be found in the vacancies area of the College's website. During their employment with the College the post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to the professional image of the College. They will be expected to provide a prompt and efficient service and to maintain appropriate standards of personal appearance at all times. A disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) may be requested in the event of a successful application to this post.
