1 CENTRAL SCIENCE LIBRARY STATUS REPORT Collection in the Library:-- Books CSL has procured 2818 new books during for the Departments. The emphasis was on procurement of Text-Books prescribed in the syllabi as the strength of M.Sc students has increased due to 54% additional intake. Researchers and Faculty demands are being met by an extensive collection of periodicals databases. 2. e-books:-- Library is helping students in reading e-books available on public domain and has a plan to acquire e-books collection from publishers like Springers, Wiley, Elsiver press etc. 3. Periodicals :--CSL has subscribed to Cold Spring Harber Protocols Journals, World Scientific Computer Science Journals, ASP-ISP Nanotechnology Journals. This has been made possible after deletion of print journals which are available online. The library has saved Rs.1.20 Crore on this account during Membership CSL membership is gradually increasing. This year 2,040 PG students, 5,50 PhD s and M.Phill students became member of the CSL. A special drive to enroll teacher as member is being taken by the CSL. 5. Visitors DU and the CSL has been the Centre of Excellence. A large number of researchers visit DU and CSL to access print and online facilities available. This year 48, 323 visitors other then members of the library took advantage of the CSL. 6. e-journals A record number of 27,088 Journals in Science discipline are available Full-Text on DU campus wide network. A Remote login facility is under implementation by which users would be able to access journals from home. 1
2 7. Information Literacy Programme: CSL has complete setup of e-information resource centre with 90 computers and trained staff. We have conducted literacy programmes for teachers at ILLL, Departments and in the library. From 21 st July, 2011 daily orientation will be arrange for the M.Sc students and Research Scholars. 8. National Level Participation: CSL has participated extensively at national level with different forums e.g. UGC INFONET, INDEST, DELNET, University Forum etc. and has availed their services for the benefit of the faculty, students and scholars.
