2 EDUCATION Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Community Resource Management (Candidate) Kenyatta University (September 2013 Ongoing) This degree hones practical and higher analytical skills to effectively work with a range of communities for individual and social change. The programme imparts knowledge in organizational skills, community planning, social impact assessment, community engagement and capacity building. Master of Science (Msc.) in Community Resource Management, Kenyatta University (June 2011) This was a two-year course. The modules included but were not limited to Project Management; Community Intervention Planning; Development Policy Analysis; Programme Design, Monitoring and Evaluation. My specialization was Project Monitoring and Evaluation in the areas of Poverty Alleviation and Eradication of Extreme Hunger. Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Family and Consumer Science (First Class Honors), Kenyatta University (June 2008) This was a four year long undergraduate program with 51 course modules. The modules included Food Security; Nutrition in Emergencies; Programme Design and Evaluation; Human Nutrition; Family and Child Advocacy; Community Nutrition Surveillance and Assessment. Environmental Impact Assessment and Audit Course, African Nazarene University (July 2012) This was an intensive course on environmental, social impact assessment and audit. 3 EXPERIENCE OF RECENT WORK DONE Kenyatta University Tutorial Fellow (Sept 2013 to Date) Working as a tutorial fellow (Ass. Lecturer) in the Department of Community Resource Management and Extension. Also a scholar for the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst) (DAAD). Kenyatta University Part-time Lecturer (Jan 2011 to July 2013) Worked as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Community Resource Management and Extension. Taught various units including Community Resource Management; Human Growth and Development; Programmes. Youth and Development Ministry of Health and Micro Nutrient Intitiative: Iron and Folic Acid Messages & Materials Pre-Testing (May 2013) Conducted a country wide pre-testing exercise of Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) advertising messages. As part of the research team we conducted this exercise to determine whether the language used in the materials is understandable and appropriate, and whether the content is relevant, believable, convincing and appealing enough to influence positive health change among the pregnant mothers. In addition we were tasked to determine what format and content is appropriate and relevant to the audience for the planned IFA interventions. Kenya Women and Children Wellness Centre (KWCWC): (April 2013) KWCWC in partnership with Ford Foundation and USAID endevours to come up with a hospital outpatient centre, research centre, gender violence primary centre, community family village for victims being violated and forensic laboratory. As the lead consultant I conducted a study and compiled a report on knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) of various stakeholders in sexual gender based violence in Nairobi County.
4 Kiegoi Fair-trade Premium Committee (January 2013) The client Kiegoi Fair-trade Premium Committee sought for provision of training services to provide the needed capacity building for its members. Through my facilitation the training was able to help build the knowledge and skill base for the committees managing the premium funds used in implementing identified projects. The training covered the following areas; Compliance criteria for Fair-trade standards for small producer organizations, certification standard operating procedure, Fair-trade premium use and management, project management cycle and environmental conservation, communication skills, internal control systems, conflict management and governance issues. Stima SACCO (January 2013) The client sought for a Customer Satisfaction Survey to be done among its clients and I had supervisal role of qualitative data collection in selected regions such as Kamburu, Olkaria, Mombasa and Kisumu. A report was developed to inform areas of intervention as the SACCO endeavours to expand nationally. Kiegoi Tea Factory (December 2012) Keigoi Tea Factory sought Climate Change Training services for tea farmers in its tea centres in Maua Region. Through the trainings facilitated, there was increase in knowledge among the tea farmers on the effects of climate change on their general life and in particular on tea farming and food production. A total of one thousand five hundred and five farmers underwent the training with over five thousand tree seedlings distributed alongside the trainings.
5 NEPAD: Kenya Evaluation Report on the National Programme of Action (Oct 2012) As a research assistant in this exercise, I was involved in the development of the National Programme of Action Report (NPOA) The exercise was conducted in phases where the first phase was one that involved desk research. This involved a review of all relevant NEPAD/ African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) policy documents for use in examining the status of the APRM NPOA. We, the consultants examined the progress so far in the Key Government Ministries and Departments as well as other implementing agencies. The second phase involved the collection of primary data through interviews with representatives from the line Ministries and departments, as well as specific expert groups, civil society organizations and private sector partners. The third and final phase involved the compilation of this evaluation report which included the development of a matrix that captured the progress in implementation so far, the problems and challenges and the way forward. Eclectics International Limited: Youth Empowerment and Implementation Officer (March 2012 December 2012) In collaboration with CAPYEI Kenya in the Youth Learning, Earning, Saving and Initiative I was in charge of the Youth Entrepreneurship Program Implementation. CAPYEI Kenya is a Master Card funded project based on the Basic Employability Skills Training (BEST) model. I facilitated training of 360 young people on financial literacy, micro entrepreneurship and savings in and around Nairobi.
