1 S washbuckler May/ STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES INDEPENDENCE COMMUNITY COLLEGE June 2017 Mentor Meetings in the Tutoring Center The mentoring program is a new project for Student Support Services. Mentors are students in their second year at ICC and must maintain a 2.5 GPA. They are willing to meet and help new students navigate their college and academic life. The Mentors and Mentees are asked to fill out a survey about themselves, and then a committee matches them. Those wishing to join as a mentor or a mentee need to contact Breta Campus or Jess Gross in the Tutoring Center. Mentor meetings are held on Tuesday from 6-7 pm in the Tutoring Center. Food is provided and our team of mentors is available to help lead you to success. Final Exam Tips: The Tutoring Center Will Have Extended Hours During Dead Week. May 1st 7:30a.m. to 9:00p.m. May 2nd 7:30a.m. to 9:00p.m. May 3rd 7:30a.m. to 9:00p.m. May 4th 7:30a.m. to 9:00p.m. May 5th 7:30a.m. to 5:00p.m. Take extra notes on review days Don t cram all of your studying into the last minute spread it out Take a 10 minute break if you re overwhelmed Study in a group Get a good night sleep

2 Fun Facts: May and June The month of May is named after Maia, the oldest daughter of Atlas and Pleione in Greek mythology. A United States President has never died in the month of May, making it the only month with such a distinction. May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month. May, in the Roman calendar, was originally the third month of the year. However, when January and February were added, it became the fifth month. Similarly, June was originally the fourth month of the year in the original Roman calendar, but became the sixth when January and February were added. June was named after the wife of Jupiter, the Roman Goddess Juno. Events for May and June May 5/5 Graduation Practice 5/6 - Graduation 5/8-5/12 - Finals Week 5/15 Intercession classes start June 6/5 Summer Session I and online begin July 7/10- Summer Session II begins
