1 Skiatook Public Schools Strategic Plan Excellence in Action

2 Substantive Framework Vision: Mission: Excellence in Action The mission of Skiatook Public Schools is to provide a safe, positive, and enriched learning environment where students, staff, and parents are challenged by high expectations, dedicated to helping all students succeed, and committed to working together to foster a district of excellence. Core Goals: Core Beliefs: Safe Learning Environment- Ensure the safety and security of all students and staff. Student Achievement - Each student will meet or exceed state and national standards by demonstrating proficiency within a rigorous curriculum that provides a foundation for success in career readiness or college preparedness and beyond. Collaborative Culture Value the opinion and ensure effective communication among student, staff, parents, and community members. Fiscal Responsibility- Assure that all students and staff should have access to safe and modern facilities that enrich the quality of academic and extracurricular activities to help our students excel in all areas of their educational experience. Teacher Leader Effectiveness - Assure that Skiatook Public Schools has an effective teacher, principal, and employee in every position. Skiatook Public Schools will provide a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff. All Skiatook Public Schools students can develop into well rounded, lifelong learners that become successful and productive members of their community. A collaborative effort between the school, students, parents, and community is fundamental to achieving and sustaining excellence. Skiatook Public Schools will ensure resources are maintained efficiently and responsibly to create a modern learning environment. 3 Process Framework Skiatook Public Schools will utilize the Process Framework to monitor the progress toward achieving the district s Core Goals. 5 Five Year Goal Areas & Strategic Objectives 1 Goal Area: Curriculum Study and make recommendations to improve curriculum in the district. Objective: Skiatook Public Schools will continue to increase the grade received on the District A-F Report Card issued by the Oklahoma State Department of Education until an A is achieved. Strategy #1: Skiatook Public Schools will research, study current trends, and make changes to current curriculum that will help increase the grade received on the Oklahoma State Department of Education issued A-F Report Card. A. Hire additional faculty to lower class sizes, increase the availability of remediation, and create teacher common plans for data-driven decision making. B. Implement additional Advanced Placement (AP), Pre-AP, and Honors classes at the high school and middle school. C. Curriculum decisions will be based on data that is collected through test scores and other assessments. D. Implement Response to Intervention procedures. E. Create a virtual academy that will provide a virtual learning environment that follows Common Core State Standards and the policies of Skiatook Public Schools. Strategy #2: Skiatook Public Schools will improve community, parent, and student communication and involvement. A. Use all technology resources available to improve communication and increase parental, community, and student involvement. B. Attaining 90% utilization of Wengage Gradebook to increase parent/teacher communication involving student progress. C. Increased participation at Parent/Teacher Conferences to promote student success and develop parent/teacher relationships. Strategy #3: Skiatook Public Schools will increase the effectiveness of professional development. A. Utilize volunteer substitutes for teacher collaboration time to enhance the quality of teaching. B. Early release time for professional development opportunities to integrate professional development to the school day without exceeding teacher 180 day contract. C. Incorporate teacher lead, teacher focused, teacher centered professional development to discuss best practices and time for reflection. D. Establishment of Professional Learning Communities to complete data-driven decision making, curriculum mapping, sharing of knowledge, and ongoing school improvement activities. 5

6 Five Year Goal Areas & Strategic Objectives 2 Goal Area: Technology 1 Improve the technology equipment and infrastructure and improve the use of technology in the school district. Objective #1: Skiatook Public Schools will explore projected expenses for technology to predict a yearly technology budget. Strategy: Skiatook Public Schools will prepare an adequate budget that addresses the district s technology needs on a yearly basis. A. Committees by departments will evaluate curriculum needs for new and enhanced software to align software with curriculum needs. B. Technology Committee will compare current assets to required assets to prepare for committee s perceived requirements to ensure hardware infrastructure is in place to support software needs. C. Projected costs for software and hardware will be assessed to enable the district to know how much money is needed for allocation of hardware. Objective #2: Skiatook Public Schools will ensure that all certified staff will have the basic and specialized computer skills they need. Strategy: Skiatook Public Schools will offer to new and current certified staff computer use training. A. Identify all certified staff that are in need of training for Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and basic computer skills and provide opportunities for all certified staff to become proficient in the use of computer technology. B. All certified staff will demonstrate the ability to use Student Information software to enable access to grades and other required tasks. C. Identify staff that use specific software for instruction and ensure these staff members use curriculum software efficiently. Objective #3: Skiatook Public Schools will continue to develop and maintain an attractive, relevant, and up to date web site. Strategy: Skiatook Public Schools web site will be an important source of information for staff, parents, students and the public. A. The web site will be monitored and updated monthly and as needed to keep the web site relevant and attractive to all users. B.The public will be surveyed periodically concerning the information and look of the web site to ensure that the public continues their interest in the web site. C.The district staff will be surveyed periodically concerning the information and look of the web site to ensure that the web site is appropriate. D.Information will be sent to parents and students through Smartphone Apps to increase communication with parents and students. 6

7 Five Year Goal Areas & Strategic Objectives Objective #4: Skiatook Public Schools will use the most cost effective avenues for purchasing technology. Strategy: Skiatook Public Schools will evaluate the purchase and or lease of technology and any combination of the two options. A. The district will explore the cost of purchasing technology with replacement schedules in mind to help formulate the budget. B. The district will explore the cost of a combination of purchasing and leasing technology to help formulate the budget. 3 Objective #5: Skiatook Public Schools will use the technology committee to explore and evaluate new technology applications and systems. Strategy: Skiatook Public Schools will use the recommendations of the committee to ensure the district adopts needed and relevant technology. A. The committee will be made up of representatives from each site, administration, and parents to ensure diversity in the committee make up. B. The committee will meet during each year to discuss trends and directions of technology related to education to make sure the technology purchase is needed, relevant, and cost effective. Goal Area: Capital Improvements Prepare long range projections for school facilities and to improve school safety and security. Objective #1: To meet the increasing safety and security demands of our school district. Strategy #1: Controlled Access A. Install glass double doors in hallways and outside school offices and additional office entrance to redirect visitors so their first stop must be the office. B. Add additional security cameras to improve administrators ability to monitor all parts of the building/grounds. Strategy #2: Replace school buses as needed using bond funds. A. Replace school buses on a regular rotation to provide safe and efficient buses to transport district students. B. Minimum of two security cameras on all buses to ensure student safety. Objective #2: Renovate, construct, and improve existing buildings. Strategy: Pass bond issues to continue renovations and new additions as needed. A. Phase I New Elementary Site (Proposed 2 nd and 3 rd Grade Center) to meet the demands of increasing enrollment and future needs. B. Auditorium renovations of repair and chair replacement due to the fact that the auditorium is used by the community on a regular basis. C. Carpet replacement and painting completed on a regular basis to ensure attractive facilities. D. Child Nutrition additional food serving areas need to be added to allow students more time to eat. E. Roofing Projects will prevent roofs from leaking at all sites and causing air quality issues. 7
