Classes are facilitated by industry professionals and attendance of all classes is compulsory. The programme runs from February November each year. Should a candidate successfully complete the one-year course, he/she may be invited to participate in a further 9 month advanced programme. Certified ID copy 5. 1 full-length photo Audition Notes for Shortlisted Applicants Applicants must prepare two items for performance at the audition should they be shortlisted. One item must be selected by the applicant from a choice of monologues supplied by the Laboratory. The second item is the applicant s own choice; it can be self-written or a monologue from a play or a poem. It is in the applicant s best interest to prepare thoroughly for the audition and to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled time. This course is primarily aimed at school leavers. Therefore, applicants with previous professional experience/ qualifications must provide additional motivation for consideration by the panel. Applicants should not apply for any bursaries/ financial assistance from the Laboratory prior to being enrolled as we will not consider applications until learners have had a successful audition and are registered for the program. We encourage you to attach any relevant information/ creative work for consideration. Such materials must be supplied with the knowledge that the Laboratory takes no responsibility for returning such materials. Should the panel require the applicant to do a call-back (a re-audition) the applicant must make her/himself available on an agreed date. P a g e 6 8

7 Audition Notes for Shortlisted Applicants The first day of a course is used for orientation. At orientation students are issued with a course outline and code of conduct, and introduced to facilities and equipment as well as staff. All documents to do with registration and courses will be kept for a minimum of five years after the commencement of the course. Note that 50% of the course fee is payable by the 30 November the year before the course begins. Note that the outstanding amount of the course fee is payable by the 30 April (students must please confirm date with the Lab Administrator). These dates will also be stipulated on the letter of registration issued upon registration of every student. International students pay full fees upon registration (registration and tuition fees); unless they hold the correct legal papers as asylum seekers or are from the Southern African region. Terms and conditions apply. Please note that once the student is registered for a specific course, the student is responsible for the full amount payable even if they do not complete or show up for the course. Registration is confirmed with a letter of registration from the Market Laboratory only. If a student does not receive a letter of registration, they are not registered and should urgently follow-up with the Lab Administrator and Education Officer. Once a student is registered for a course they cannot postpone it unless in extraordinary circumstances, three weeks before a course starts. In this case they will be required to make a request in writing to the Education Officer. After the payment agreement has been completed and signed by the student or guardian (for students who are younger than 18 yrs old), no changes can be made, unless authorized by the Education Officer. The Market Theatre Laboratory reserves the right to reschedule course dates. Please note that all work produced by a student during the course can be used by Market Laboratory for archival, marketing and publicity purposes for Market Laboratory programmes. No further or prior consent will be sought in this case. Although the Market Laboratory is doing its best to ensure smooth learning during days of load-shedding, the Market Lab will not be held liable for any inconveniences that could be attributed to load-shedding. Please note that classes could be altered in the event of loadshedding, flooding, or other events beyond our control. Students must write their full name as reference on payment at the bank, and submit proof of payment to the Lab Administrator. Students may not apply for a bursary to pay the initial 50% of the course fee in their first year.
