This is done in part by managing injury surveillance, by overseeing three epidemiologist positions and by providing for the development, maintenance, and enhancement and provision of injury-related data for reports, presentations, and collaborations to support efforts to reduce injury in NM. How does it get done? Position manages injury prevention functions by directly and indirectly managing about 10 injury prevention staff, who work to reduce the incidence and severity of the results of injury, including early childhood, sexual violence, older adult falls, suicide attempts, and other causes of injury. The position also maintains and seeks federal funding for injury prevention efforts, makes presentation, and collaborates with other state and local organizations. Minimum Qualification A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of professional level with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. The Healthcare-associated Infections (HAI) Medical Epidemiologist provides the clinical and technical expertise to direct and implement HAI activities under the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Emerging Infections Program (EIP) and Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Cooperative Agreements. The Medical Epidemiologist will function as a principle investigator (PI) for select EIP activities. This is a half-time (20 hours per week) position. How does it get done? The position works directly with healthcare facility infection control staff, Department of Health epidemiologists, medical epidemiologists within the Epidemiology and Response Division, and other stakeholders including members of the NM HAI Advisory Committee to reduce the incidence of HAIs and combat the spread of antimicrobial resistance. This position will coordinate the sharing and analysis of public health and public safety information with law enforcement agencies across the state to identify current and emerging hot spots (areas with high overdose risk), identify overdose risk factors, and deploy prevention resources to targeted areas. This requires coordinating information sharing between DOH and law enforcement agencies, researching the potential need for formal agreements regarding the National Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), and developing the formal data-sharing agreements. This position will provide technical assistance, and facilitate training, to Law Enforcement agencies in New Mexico concerning naloxone carry-and-administer programs as well as develop a process to connect overdose survivors and high-risk individuals, such as those re-entering communities from prisons and jails, to treatment and prevention services. This position will conduct surveillance of circumstances associated with violent deaths and develop and pursue prevention recommendations and work to reduce the incidence of violent death in New Mexico Position will lead the New Mexico Violent Death Reporting System (NVDRS), which oversees violent death surveillance activities (and includes drug overdose-related deaths). The incumbent will also provide leadership for two data abstractor positions that study circumstances of violent and overdoserelated deaths. In addition, the selected candidate will disseminate surveillance and prevention results in written reports, presentations, web-based formats, press releases, and publications. This epidemiologist may also be the Principal Investigator for, and help manage, the federal NVDRS grant. Who are the customers?
