1 World AIDS Day (1 st December 2016) NSS REPORT 2016 WORLD AIDS DAY PROGRAM Programs on the occasion of World AIDS Day 2016 was organized by the NSS unit batch for 2 days in the college & hospital block of Academy of Medical Sciences (ACME), Pariyaram, Kannur on 31 st Nov & 1 st Dec A preliminary meeting of the NSS leaders was convened on 3 rd week of November 2016 to discuss the planning of the events. There was motivation from IAPSM, Kerala State to observe the day with many programs. Also the IADVL, Kerala State expressed their interest to join with NSS for AIDS day observation. Finally NSS planned to carry out the program in association with departments of Community Medicine and Dermatology with the support of IAPSM & IADVL, Kerala state. It was decided to conduct Elocution, Poster and Quiz competitions for the students of various institutions of Academy of Medical sciences. It was planned to carry out a Rally with pamphlet distribution to common people wearing T-Shirts provided by IADVL. The competitions started with Elocution and Preliminary round of Quiz in the afternoon 2:00PM on 30 th Nov They were held in the Dept. of Pharmacology and Community Medicine Hall. Competitions were held as intercollegiate basis which witnessed good participation from students. The Rally was organized in the morning at 10:15AM on 1 st Dec 2016.The Red Ribbon ceremony was inaugurated and the rally was flagged off by Dr Sudhakaran K, Principal, ACME. The rally was spearheaded by Dr Rajiv Sridharan, Professor & Head, Dept. of Dermatology, ACME and Dr Jayasree AK, Professor & Head, Dept. of Community Medicine, ACME along with the NSS Officers and leaders. The message of the program was sent to the public through pamphlet distribution. Red Ribbons were distributed to all the staffs of ACME. Posters related to AIDS awareness which were invited from the students of Medical, Dental, Nursing and Pharmacy colleges of Pariyaram were finally displayed in the public area of the hospital campus. The AIDS day observation program was held at 2:00PM in the afternoon on 1 st Dec 2016 in the Medical Education Hall of ACME. The program was chaired by Mr. K. Revi, Director, ACME & Medical Director, KCHC, Dr Sudhakaran K., Principal, ACME, Dr Rajiv Sridharan, Professor & Head, Dept. of Dermatology, ACME, Dr Anand, Professor, Dept. of Community Medicine, ACME along with the NSS Officers. Mrs. Mayamol (NSS Program Officer) welcomed the gathering; Dr Sparshadeep E M (NSS Program Officer) introduced the Theme of World AIDS day; The Director presided over the function; Principal gave an inaugural address; Dr Rajiv Sridharan delivered the keynote address; Dr. Anand spoke on the new WHO initiatives for tackling the AIDS; Dr Manoj Kumar DK, Professor, Dept. of Chest Medicine gave a Guest Lecture on TB wit HIV. 2 of Elocution & Poster Competition were given prizes, trophies and certificates sponsored by IADVL, Kerala State. The Vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. Chandini (NSS Secretary). Lastly, the final round of Quiz competition was carried out for 5 teams with Dr Sparshadeep EM, Dr Ganesh and Dr Enid as Quiz Masters and with Dr Nivya and her team of NSS volunteers managing scoreboard. It had total of 5 rounds including Oral, Visual and Rapidfire. Finally the winners were awarded prizes and certificates. Finally, the program was winded up with the concluding remarks by Dr Jayasree AK and the NSS Program Officers.
