5 Planning for the future Meeting the schooling needs of Queensland s growing population Meeting the schooling needs of our growing population will be a major challenge in Queensland over the next two decades and beyond. Demand for places in Queensland Catholic is projected to increase by around 60,000 students between 2011 and 2031, requiring the development of 2-3 new every year and expansion of many others. PROJECTED ADDITIONAL NUMBER OF STUDENTS SEEKING A CATHOLIC EDUCATION ,000 Delivering this required school infrastructure will only be possible with significant government support. The Catholic sector has a strong track record of innovative and cost-effective delivery of school infrastructure. By meeting the cost of land purchase and other Catholic community contributions, the Catholic sector also delivers new school places at a significant saving to government and taxpayers. Demand for places in Queensland Catholic is projected to increase by around 60,000 students between 2011 and 2031 GROWING IN THE EARLY YEARS Catholic education in Queensland has made a strong commitment to increasing programs for preschool age children. In 2014, 23 stand-alone kindergartens are located across the five dioceses. Qualified early childhood teachers are delivering a fully accredited educational program to over 850 children. Additional kindergarten services continue to be considered in locations where there is an identified need within Catholic parish and school communities. READY FOR YEAR 7 TO SECONDARY 2015 The move of Year 7 to secondary is a historic and exciting development that will open up new educational opportunities for students of this age. Catholic are well prepared to welcome both Year 7 and Year 8 to secondary school in 2015.
