2 Welcome to Sunderland Sunderland offers great accommodation at affordable prices with an excellent range of locations to choose from. Enjoy a superb riverside view from Panns Bank, Scotia Quay or the spacious surroundings of Clanny House which provides a number of bedroom sizes. We ll make your transition from home to student accommodation as easy as possible, so throughout this guide we ve included links to videos of each accommodation, as well as additional links to our website, so you can get a taste of university life. We ve also included points of interest such as where supermarkets, transport links and of course the University campuses are in relation to your accommodation. ACCOMMODATION GUARANTEE Undergraduate students are guaranteed a room in university accommodation in their first year of study. Postgraduate students are guaranteed a room in university accommodation for the duration of their course. LIVE WITH US We have five residences (four university managed and one private) for over 2000 students all within a two mile radius of our campuses. Based on student feedback, this year also saw our Accommodation reach the national final of the What Uni? Student Choice Awards, putting us 6th place in the UK!

Clanny House is one of the University s largest residences with 14 blocks containing 637 rooms that accommodate both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students. The free and regular campus buses make Clanny accessible to students studying at both City Campus and The Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter s. LOCATION Clanny House is 1 mile from City Campus, and 2.4 miles from the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter s. The nearest Metro station, Millfield, is a five-minute walk away, and there are regular bus services to the city centre. Scotia Quay, consisting of Allan House and Russell House, is one of two residences offering students ensuite facilities in every study bedroom. Scotia Quay located next to Panns Bank offers a quieter environment and is very popular with our mature students. LOCATION Scotia Quay is 1 mile from City Campus, 0.9 miles from the Sir Tom Cowie Campus at St Peter s. The nearest Metro station, Sunderland, is a ten-minute walk. The free campus bus service runs regularly during term times between The Forge, the University Campus s and Faculty buildings. 5 London Campus UNITE Our accommodation partner UNITE can help you find the perfect place in London. You can choose an ensuite bedroom in a shared flat if you want to live with friends, or a studio apartment if you prefer to live independently. Prices start from 149 per week. All bills are included (water, electricity, heating, Wi-Fi and contents insurance), and properties feature communal gardens and roof terraces, common rooms, bike storage, car parking, study areas, 24-hour security cameras and secure door entry systems. The closest property is Quantum Court, just a few stops away from the University of Sunderland in London on the Docklands Light Railway, which means you can be at the University within a matter of minutes. 7 How and when to apply HOW TO APPLY As soon as you ve accepted an offer to study at the University of Sunderland (conditional or unconditional) even if we are your insurance choice, you can apply for accommodation. Applications open February, and you don t need to wait until you receive your exam results. STEP 1 Go to the following website to register your personal details, address and student application number (found on your CAS/study offer letter). For example; UA0LTM/ , student application number is STEP 2 A unique validation code will be ed to you instantly. If you fail to receive your validation code please check your spam/junk folders, if it s not there then accommodation@sunderland.ac.uk STEP 3 Once you receive your validation code you can log into your account (you only need to use this code when you first log in). Keep your log in details safe as you will need these details to check the progression of your application. STEP 4 Log in and create a new application. Add your choices of accommodation and any additional information you would like us to know. Then submit! You ll receive an automatic confirming that you have submitted an application. STEP 5 University managed accommodation The Accommodation Office allocates applications in accordance with our allocation policy. If you have an Unconditional Firm (UF) or Conditional Firm (CF) you ll receive a room offer via within seven working days. WHEN YOU RECEIVE AN ACCOMMODATION OFFER Log into your accommodation online account and access your contract by going to the View Room Offer button. Your contract is a legal binding agreement so it is important that you are aware of the Terms and Conditions. You can find these in the Code of Practice, which is readily available on our website at: BOOKING FEE University Managed Accommodation. If you re happy with the offer, you can accept the contract online and will then be required to make an online booking fee payment of 300. This fee is compulsory, but is then deducted from your first rent payment. More info at: rentsandpayments. If for any reason you are unhappy with the offer, please contact us so we can discuss this with you. The Forge U Student Village At The Forge U Student Village, a non-refundable payment at the time of booking of 100 must be made to secure a room offer. For more information visit PAYMENT METHODS If you choose to pay by any non-online payment methods, please accommodation@sunderland.ac.uk to send us a copy of your receipt (bank transfer) or your unique code, which will be given to you by student finance via telephone. We will also require confirmation in writing that you accept the terms and conditions. Living in University accommodation doesn t have to end after your first year! We are a firm choice for a number of our continuing students, with locations around all sites specifically for students studying in their second year and beyond. We also offer incentives to those who wish to stay with us.

8 Other things to think about CONTACT US When contacting the office please have your student application number ready (found on your CAS/study offer letter). Accommodation Office The Gateway, University of Sunderland, City Campus, Chester Road, Sunderland, SR1 3SD ARRIVING EARLY If there is a need for you to arrive earlier than the start date on your contract, please let us know. Where possible, you will be booked into your contracted room but if not, temporary accommodation in another room may be used. A charge per night for the room will be applied. More info at: PRIVATE HOUSING If you decide that living with the University of Sunderland is not the right option for you, then you can chose to live in private housing. The Accommodation Office advertises private housing on the Student Pad website. Landlords of any Housing advertised on Student Pad have been accredited by Sunderland City Council, and the accommodation itself has been visited by a member in the accommodation team, which means we are assured that it is safe, secure and meets the University standards with regards to security and specification. The Carbon Trust Standard is the world s first carbon award that requires an organisation to measure, manage and reduce its carbon footprint and actually make real reductions year-on-year.
