All our pathways at Level 3 provide a platform for access to university, apprenticeship or employment. If you already have a career in mind, you can select your pathway to match your career choice. 4 University, Apprenticeship or Employment? University All our pathways at Level 3 provide a platform for access to university. If you have a career in mind, you can select your pathway to match your career choice: For example to study a degree in Sport and Business Management, you could follow Pathway 2 or 4 and select to study two courses, e.g. (Business and Sport), gaining valuable experience in both subject areas. If you have a passion for one subject area and wanted to pursue this at university, Pathway 1 would provide you with the right opportunity to develop your knowledge and experience to do this. Our pathways provide a wide range of options to enable you to pursue your chosen degree pathway. Apprenticeships/Employment Following a career pathway into an apprenticeship or employment will allow you to develop your knowledge and experience in the world of work, where you can earn while you learn. For example if you wanted to pursue an apprenticeship or career in Business and Finance you could chose to study Business and complement this with Accountancy by following Pathway 3. Alternatively if your passion is Construction, then you can select a more subject specific route, Pathway 1 and focus on your chosen career goal. The subject benefits from having a dedicated and enthusiastic department who are determined to deliver a stimulating, interesting and successful course. What will I study? The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma is equivalent to three A Levels. You will cover thirteen units over the two years. You will study seven core units and six specialist units selected from the key areas of business for the 21st century. The careers and opportunities that can arise from studying construction at Level 3 go far beyond the generic roles of architect, civil engineer and bricklayer. Modern construction involves a wide variety of roles that are ever-changing. Studying construction allows you to keep an open view looking forward to your next choice, whether that be university, apprenticeship or using the transferable skills in another field. You will visit different sites to reinforce learning and help put the course into context. This vocational and practical course is ideal for students who would like to build their creative digital media portfolio and production skills. The course provides a balance of breadth and depth, while retaining a degree of choice for individual learners to study content relevant to their own interests and progression choices. 29 ACCOUNTANCY Why should I study Accountancy? Accountancy equips you with the necessary knowledge and skills to be able to assess the performance of all types of business organisations. It will enable you to effectively analyse and evaluate financial data so that you can make judgements, decisions and recommendations about how businesses can manage their financial affairs. What will I study? You will learn about accounting including double entry bookkeeping, income statements and balance sheets of sole traders and limited companies. 31 EXTENDED PROJECT QUALIFICATION A LEVEL Why should I study EPQ? The EPQ is a chance for you to develop your independent research and project skills. It can be on anything you want, the choice is yours. There are of course, guidelines you must follow but this is a perfect opportunity to develop the skills you need for university, apprenticeships or the world of work. The EPQ can be in the form of either: a dissertation, an investigation/field study with statistical analysis or a performance. What will I study? 32 Why should I choose EPQ? The course enables you to demonstrate your independent learning skills, which universities and employers welcome and value. You can choose your own subject to research in detail. How will I be assessed? You will be assessed on your ability to manage, develop, record and realise your projects. The EPQ is graded on an A*- E scale. The EPQ comprises of a written report, a model, an artefact, a CD/Video/DVD of a performance or other activity or a photographic record of a project. It also includes conducting a presentation and is highly regarded by universities. Next Steps The EPQ is a stand-alone qualification. It helps you gain a toolkit of skills which are vital for further education, especially university and the world of work. You can use your project at interview stage for higher education and could certainly discuss it in your UCAS, apprenticeship and job applications.
