1 Junior Post-High School Planning Meeting SPRING 2017 STUDENT SERVICES DEPARTMENT GRANT COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL

2 Purpose Today I am participating in a Post High School Planning Meeting I am successful today when: I complete the Game Plan Survey I complete the College Super Match I save 3-5 schools in my Schools I m Thinking About List I start a resume for career searching or college applications It s important for me to do this because it will help me to plan and prepare for life after high school.

3 Life after graduation College? CLC? Technical School? Military? Work force? Achieving your post-high school goals requires thought, planning, and research on your part! What are your responsibilities now, over the summer, and next year?

4 College Planning Timeline: Spring/Summer Jr. year Research colleges and create a list of 3-5 schools Schedule on-campus college visits Financial Aid Night - Wednesday, April 26 6:30 PM Get a part-time job, volunteer in the community, and participate in activities and clubs Retake SAT or ACT if needed Prospective college athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center

5 College Planning Timeline: Fall of Senior Year Senior Individual posthigh school planning meeting Letters of recommendation? Apply to colleges Visit colleges Attend college rep visits at Grant Retake SAT/ACT if necessary Complete FAFSA after October 1 st, 2017

7 Take advantage of these opportunities! Financial Aid Night at Grant (April 26, 6:30pm) College Night and Financial Aid Night at Grant (September 2017) Illinois Regional College Fair at CLC (Fall & Spring) FAFSA completion workshops at Grant (Multiple workshops available in fall 2017) College representatives (all year at Grant) Schedule meetings with your counselor and the career counselor!

8 College Representatives: WHO are they and WHY should you meet them? College reps work in the admissions offices of colleges and universities. They visit Grant to give students information about their college: academic programs, campus life, scholarship opportunities, etc. To attend a college rep visit, sign up in Naviance and come to Student Services to get a pass which must be signed by your teacher and counselor.

10 College of Lake County (CLC) CLC is a local, affordable option for students who plan to: Earn a 2-year Associate s degree Complete general education classes before transferring to a 4- year college for a Bachelor s Degree Complete a certificate program for specific careers

11 Military Military reps are available in the Commons and Senior Cafeteria Visit the websites of the military branches to find answers to FAQs Fall of Senior year: Sign up in Guidance to take the ASVAB in October 2017 Talk to your family about your plans Earn your high school diploma!

Super Match Click on Super Match College Search under Colleges Tab Search by criteria that will help you make an informed choice (i.e., tuition, location, test scores, majors) Make a list of 3-5 colleges of interest, including your Dream School 3. Resume Click on About Me Tab and then Resume under Interesting Things About Me Under Add New Entry, select options from drop down and enter your personal information
