1 1)KCIAPM INTERACTIVE CYTOLOGY SLIDE SEMINAR KCIAPM organized an interactive slide seminar with special reference to Cytology, the newfrontiers in cervical cytology. The cases are drawn from the files of J S S Medical College,Mysore. Dr Nandini, Professor of Pathology, J S S Medical College, Mysore, was the moderator of the session. The cases are distributed among the postgraduates of various medical colleges. The postgraduates from these medical colleges were requested to prepare for the same and present the cases to the house, before the moderator discusses the case to give the final diagnosis. Case no 10 : Adichunchanagiri Institute of Medical sciences, Bellur The CD containing the microphotograph of cases was made available to all medical colleges for prior preparation. The best presenter was awarded. Dr Priya, Post graduate from Bangalore Medical College won the best presenter award. An additional guest lecture with a practical demonstration on Bibliographic software on article writing was also organized during the session. SPEAKER : Dr Harish, Professor and HOD, Oncosurgery, MSRMC The programme showed good attendance of 96 delegates. 2) NATIONAL CME IN HAEMATOLOGY 2012 Department of Pathology, JJM Medical College organized National CME on Hematology on Feb 19 th 2012 at Bapuji Auditorium, Davangere in collaboration with RGUHS, Karnataka Chapter- Indian

2 Association of Pathologist and Microbiologists (KC-IAPM), Karnataka Chapter- Indian Society OfHematology and Blood Transfusion (KC-ISHBT) and Karnataka Hemophilia Society, Davangere. The eminent speakers were Dr. M.B. Agarwal, renowned hematologist, Beach Candy Hospital, Mumbai, Dr.Seetalakshmi, Prof & Head, Dept of Clinical Pathology, St. John s Medical College Hospital, Bangalore, Dr.Flavia B, Medical Advisor, Novonordisk, Bangalore, Dr. C.R Banapurmath, Prof & Head, Dept of Pediatrics, Dr.G.Guruprasad, Prof & Neonatologist, Dept of Pediatrics, J J M Medical College &Dr.MahendraBalar, Consultant Pathologist, Maitri Diagnostic, Bangalore. The CME was formally inaugurated by Dr.ShamanurShivshankarappa, MLA, Honorary Secretary, Bapuji Educational Association, Davangere. In his inaugural speech, he appreciated the efforts of the department in developing diagnostic services to the needy patients & wished the CME a great success. Souvenir including various articles on hematology was released on this occasion. H.R Chandrasekhar, Principal, JJMMC chaired the programme. Smt.KiruvadiGirijamma, Governing Council member, Dr Gurupadappa,, PG director, Dr M B Agarwal, Dr (Brig) GLN Swamy, President, KC-ISHBT were among the main dignitaries on the dias. Dr S.S Hiremath, President, Organising Committee, welcomed the gathering, Dr. Suresh Hanagavadi, Organising Secretary,spoke about the CME & vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Doddikoppad. Undergraduates, Postgraduates and teaching faculty from various departments, of various Medical institutions, around 300 in number attended the CME. Feedback was encouraging and satisfactory.

3 3) KCIAPM INTERACTIVE SLIDE SEMINAR KCIAPM conducted an interactive Slide Seminar at M.S. Ramaiah Medical College. The cases are drawn from files of Anand Diagnostic Laboratory, Bangalore.Dr.Jayaram N, Consultant Anand Diagnostic laboratory and President, KCIAPM, moderated the session. 11 Cases was selected, the slides were sent to respective medical colleges. As limited number of slide boxes is available, microphotographs of slides are made available for viewing in our website, One each case was entrusted to the Post Graduate of the respective Medical College for presentation during the seminar. The concerned Heads of the Department were requested to delegate the responsibility to any one of their post graduate to present his/her views during the seminar. The interactive slide seminar was very well accepted.

4 4) KCIAPM - 1 st STATE LEVEL INTERCOLLEGIATE PATHOLOGY POST GRADUATE QUIZ st State level Intercollegiate Pathology Post Graduate Quiz, Q-PATH was held on 30 th March 2012 at MVJ medical college and research Hospital in association with KCIAPM. There was an over whelming response with 28 teams from all over Karnataka registering for Quiz. However home teams did not participate to bring more fair in the Quiz. Events on the day of Quiz :00am-10:00am: All the quiz participants made to the venue well in advance and collected their badges, had their breakfast and seated in the lecture hall for MCQs test. 10:00am-11:00am: There was a preliminary round comprising of 60 MCQ s for 60 Marks and time allotted was 1 hr. 11:00am-11:30am: students had their cup of tea and meanwhile their papers were evaluated by Dr ShameemSharieff, Dr N Gandhi, Dr Raja Dr A N Roopa and Dr Lakshmi Rao from BMC. 11:30am- 12:00 noon: INAUGURATION: Welcome address was given by Dr PadminiJeyachandran HOD and Professor of Pathology. There was inaugural address by Dr S.Vasantha Kumar, Principal of MVJ MC & RH. The Secretary of KCIAPM Dr N K Alva presided the function and congratulated MVJ MC & RH for hosting the function. Dr Krishna Prasad, Vice principal of MVJ MC & RH announced the 8 teams who got selected for the final rounds. Dr Vijayshankar, Prof of Pathology at AIIMS Bellur and Dr Tejasvi, Associate Prof at KIMS, Bangalore attended the inaugural function. Dr Tejasvirepresented KIMS,Bangalore and volunteered to conduct the quiz for the next year Teams who made it to the final round First and second prize winners were easily decided, But there was a tie for the third position between JJM medical college Davangere and MSRamiah Medical College, Bangalore. Finally after the Tie breaker for the 3 rd place the prize winners are as below 1st Prize: Dr.Thej M J Dr. Thomas A K SDUMC, Kolar 2nd Prize: Dr.Indu Dr.ChristalMorasSt.John s medical college, Bangalore 3rd Prize: Dr.Bhargavi Dr.Kshitija JJM Medical college, Davangere The prizes were given away by Chief administrative officer of MVJ MC & RH, Mrs Dharini. The rolling shield was awarded to the 1 st prize winners, Dr Thej M Jand Dr Thomas A K, from SDUMC, Kolar. We bid farewell to all the participants with great satisfaction and getting good feedback from the participants.

Dayanand.
