2 Introduction The IVC LVN Program started in 1960 and has since offered courses in licensed vocational nursing. The program is accredited by the California Board of Vocational Nurse & Psychiatric Technicians ( and after completion of three (3) semesters of instruction, students apply for the licensure exam (NCLEX PN). Classes are held during the day four (4) days a week, two days of classroom theory and two days of clinical training. If admitted to the program, students must pass a background check and drug screen and complete a physical exam, immunizations, and obtain a CPR card prior to entering the clinical areas. Review the information below thoroughly to be aware of the requirements for LVN at IVC. Eligibility - Students who meet the following criteria are eligible to submit an application: 17 years of age or older IVC Student having obtained a G# High school graduate (U.S. school or the equivalent) or completion of the GED In good health and able to lift minimum 35lb High School Requirement It is a requirement of the CA Board of Vocational Nurse & Psychiatric Technicians that an applicant verify high school graduation from an accredited school in the United States or completion of the GED. A copy of the high school diploma, transcript, or a copy of the GED is required when applying. Students who have graduated from a school outside of the United States will need to have it evaluated by a professional credentials service in the U.S. A copy of the evaluation results is required when applying. Foreign transcripts which have not been evaluated are not accepted with the application. Prerequisites - The following courses must be completed to apply. A 2.0 GPA or C Grade in these courses is required, however it is advised that students achieve higher grades to increase the GPA. Completion of these classes does not guarantee admission. ENG 110 Composition & Reading PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology BIOL 090 Anatomy & Physiology for Health Occupations o BIOL 090 can be substituted with BIOL 200 and 202, or BIOL 204 and 206, or the equivalent AHP 100 Medical Terminology Completion of PSY 204, Developmental Psychology from Conception to Death (Lifespan) is strongly advised, prior to applying. This is a co-requisite and will be required in first semester of LVN if not completed. Required Documentation The following documentation is required with the LVN application: o Copy of the high school transcript or diploma verifying graduate status, or copy of the GED o Copy of the IVC transcript (Webstar copies accepted) Official copy is not required o Copy of transcripts from all other colleges attended Official copies are not required with the application but will need to be filed with Admissions & Records if admitted. o Copy of the IVC DegreeWorks Audit for the LVN major In Progress Courses - Students are eligible to apply with the prerequisites in progress, however, students who have completed all prerequisites will be given priority only if more applications are received than the number of slots available for an LVN class.

3 Deadlines/Upcoming Classes Applications are received during the months of March or September of every other year. A new class begins after three (3) semesters. Upcoming application periods are below: Application Period For LVN Class March, 2016 Fall 2016 September, 2017 Spring 2018 March, 2019 Fall 2019 September, 2020 Spring 2021 Program Costs For three (3) semesters of nursing classes, the costs are estimated at $4,025 to $4,200. This includes tuition, parking, student representation fees, uniform and accessories, physical exam and immunizations, background check and drug screen, CPR, textbooks and materials, and the licensure application (NCLEX PN). Clearance Requirements These requirements include a basic physical exam and immunizations (TB Screening, Measles/Mumps/Rubella [MMR], T-Dap, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and the Influenza vaccination. In addition, a background check and drug screen and CPR from the American Heart Association will be required. Information will be provided to students upon admission. Nursing Information Session Attendance at an information session is required sessions are held regularly to inform students of the requirements for LVN. Students will need to keep their date of attendance to include in the application. Advisement - Students are strongly advised to meet with the Nursing counselor prior to applying. 4 Third Semester LVN: VN 130 Common Health Problems II VN 132 Common Health Problems III Total To obtain the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree in Vocational Nursing, the prerequisite courses above plus the degree courses below are required. Each course within the certificate or major must be completed with a C or better to progress to the next level. All class and lab components of each course must be completed with a Satisfactory (S) to progress to the next level. PSY 204 must be completed in the semester indicated (or before applying to the program) with a grade of C or better to progress to the next level. Students wishing to submit additional information may do but it will not affect the selection process. Students are notified by 30 to 60 days after the deadline on status of their selection. *Foreign high school transcripts are not accepted. A minimum 2.0 GPA in all prerequisite course work meets eligibility for applying to the program but does not guarantee admission. Copies of all college transcripts are required with the application, including transcripts already filed with the College. The high school transcript or diploma, or the GED is required with this application. Previous convictions: When applying for the VN license, the CA Board of Vocational Nurse & Psychiatric Technicians will consider the offense(s) but cannot make a determination for approval or denial of licensure without evaluating the entire (licensure) application and supporting documentation. Students are, therefore, advised to submit a one page typed statement with the IVC Nursing Application identifying occurrence(s). A background check and drug screen will be required if admitted to the program.
