2 W Uhere MATTER Walsh University is dedicated to helping our students academically, spiritually, and financially throughout their college journey. We are committed to affordable tuition and offer generous financial aid opportunities to 98 percent of our full-time students. Walsh University offers a variety of institutional scholarships and grants that students can qualify and apply for. Applying for financial aid can become overwhelming, and that is where we come in to help! Each student will be working with a dedicated Admission Counselor throughout the admission and financial aid process. They will be with you every step of the way! Meet your Admission Counselor here! Who should apply for Financial Aid? It is recommended that all students should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). That way students can be considered for every available type of financial aid. Income does play a large role in determining financial aid, especially at the federal level. However, it is not the only factor. Other factors like family size, number of siblings in college, and assets also come into play. We realize that sometimes families have special circumstances that the FAFSA does not initially consider. If you would like to discuss this in greater detail with your Admission Counselor, please feel free to do so she/he will be working closely with you throughout the financial aid process, and will help you through the appeal process should you fall into one of the Special Circumstance Appeal categories.

4 Your Financial Aid Checklist: Register for your FSA ID fsaid.ed.gov File the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Walsh FAFSA Code: Review your Financial Aid award with your Admission Counselor Log into your Cavalier Center Account to accept or decline the award. Complete Entrance Loan Counseling, and sign your Master Promissory Note studentloans.gov FSA ID Both students and parents must register for a Federal Student Aid ID. Two different addresses must be used as well. It is recommended that you do record both FSA ID log in information. You will be using this information each time you file the FAFSA. This must be completed before filing the FAFSA. Filling out the FAFSA The FAFSA will open for all current and incoming freshmen October 1st of each year. Please file your FAFSA using tax information from two years prior. Make sure to list Walsh University on your FAFSA! It is very important to complete the FAFSA as early as possible. The earlier you file the FAFSA, the earlier you will be able to receive your financial aid award from Walsh. Financial Aid awards are sent to families starting the beginning of December. Reviewing your Financial Aid Award Once you receive your financial aid award, your Admission Counselor will be going over your award with you personally. They will contact you to set up an appointment over the phone or in person. Log into your Cavalier Center Account After reviewing your financial aid award with your Admission Counselor, please log into your Cavalier Center account with your student ID and your birthdate. Once you are logged in, you will then accept or decline your financial aid. Grants and scholarships are always accepted for the student. Students must decide if they would like to accept or decline their loans and work study if it is offered to them. Entrance Loan Counseling/Master Promissory Note (MPN) Upon reviewing your financial aid award with your Admission Counselor, you will then need to complete your Entrance Loan Counseling and sign your Master Promissory Note if you will be accepting your Stafford Loan. This must be completed in order for the Department of Education to distribute the loans to the students.

6 Federal And State Financial Aid: Grant/Loan: Qualification: About: Federal Pell Grant Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) TEACH Grant Need-Based Eligibility determined by FAFSA results Need-Based Must be Pell eligible Eligibility determined by FAFSA results Maintaining a 3.25 cumulative GPA OR scoring above the 75th percentile on one or more portions of a college admissions test. Must be enrolled in a TEACH-Grant eligible program Completion of the FAFSA The Federal Pell Grant is designed to assist students in need to continue their education beyond high school. Grant amounts are reduced proportionately for students enrolled less than full time. This program is available to undergraduate students with substantial financial need. Preference is given to those students receiving a Pell Grant. Application is made each year by completing the FAFSA. This federal grant is available to education majors who will teach in certain subject areas. This grant has the potential of turning into a loan if certain conditions are not met. For more information please visit: Ohio College Opportunity Grant Federal Work Study Federal Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Loans Need-Based Eligibility determined by FAFSA results Need-Based Subsidized Loan - Need-Based Unsubsidized Loan - Non-Need-Based Eligibility for this need-based grant is determined by the state of Ohio at the time the FAFSA is filed. It is available to Ohio residents attending Ohio schools. The Federal Work-Study Program provides jobs for students who have substantial financial need. Students work on a part-time basis on campus and receive a monthly paycheck, dependent on the number of hours worked. Students must first file the FAFSA to be considered for a Direct Stafford Loan. Loans are available either on a subsidized or unsubsidized basis and are borrowed directly from the federal government. The subsidized loan is based on financial need with the federal government paying interest while the student is in school. The unsubsidized loan is not based on need, and interest accrues on the loan while the student is in school. Managing your payments Alternative Loans Parent PLUS Loan Semester Payments Tuition Management Systems (TMS) There are multiple outside loan options to choose from. Some of these loan options can have payments that are deferred until after the student graduates from college. Some loans can also allow the student to take out the loan themselves. They will however need a co-signer. This is a direct loan through the government. Parents can apply for this loan to help with any additional costs after financial aid. This loan does have a fixed interest rate, and parents are required to start making payments on the loan 60 days after it is disbursed to the school. Should a parent be denied the Parent Plus Loan, the student will automatically receive an extra $4,000 to their Unsubsidized Stafford Loan. Any out of pocket costs for the year can be split into two payments. Should families choose this payment option, the student s semester payment is due by the first day of class in the Fall and Spring semesters. Interest will begin to accrue at the end of September. Any out of pocket costs for the year can be split into four, five, or six month payments across the fall and spring semesters. Fall payments begin in the summer. Walsh University partners with TMS to provide families with a quick and easy interest-free payment option! There is a small enrollment fee for each semester parents would like to enroll in this payment plan. *You can also combine these payment plans above. That way you can put together the best financial option for you and your future!*
