8 Attendance Requirements Full-time students are expected to reside in Leicester, or within easy commuting distance of the city, for the duration of their study PhD students are normally expected to work office hours, a minimum of 37.5 hours per week Students must have monthly formal meeting with their supervisors and submit meeting records

9 Leave Leave must be no longer than 15 working days (3 weeks) Leave requests of 1 month+ will only be allowed in exceptional circumstances Annual leave runs 1 st January to 31 st December All leave must be approved by Kiri Humphreys and supervisor, prior to leave being taken Use online form to request leave 24 days leave University Closure Days Bank Holidays Total Leave Allowance

10 Sickness Contact supervisor in first instance Use online form to log sickness with Programme Administrator, after return Absences due to sickness of more than 7 days must have a doctors note

15 Formal Requirements Submit First Year Report Submit Thesis Work Plan Submit completed Portfolio Complete Postgraduate Courses totalling at least 15 credits Complete Probation Review In-sessional English Language courses (if non-native English speaker)

16 Probation Review - Submissions Month 9 Student submits Probation documentation to Programme Administrator First Year Report Portfolio Thesis Work Plan Supervisory Panel submit report to Probation Review Panel.

17 Probation Review Meeting Month 9/10 When How Presentation Viva Voce Decision

18 Probation Review - Decisions Pass The research student should be allowed to continue with their research degree programme. Defer The research student should continue on probation for a period of no more than six months, and complete a further and final probation review before the end of that period. Transfer The research student should be transferred to a lower degree programme, MPhil. Fail The research student s registration should be terminated.

19 Probation Review Confirmation and Feedback Month 11 Probation Review Panel Report is completed and signed off by Head of Department Probation Review Panel report is sent to Graduate Office Decision and Feedback on Probation Review is sent to Student and Supervisory Panel
