1 DAR ES SALAAM UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF EDUCATION A Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam OFFICE OF THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL ACADEMIC APPLICATION INTO VARIOUS POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2018/2019 This is to bring to your attention that the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE), a Constituent College of the University of Dar es Salaam, invites application into Master of Arts with Education (M.A. Ed.) Degree Programme; Master of Science With Education (MSC.ED) Degree Programme; Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Evening) Programme, and; Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Online) Programme for the Academic Year 2018/2019. Deadline for application is 30 th May Successful applicants will be notified by the end of July, MASTER OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION (M.A. ED) DEGREE PPROGRAMME 1.1 Programme Structure Master of Arts with Education (MA (Ed.)) Programme has five streams, namely; Linguistics, Geography, Kiswahili Literature, Literature and History. 1.2 Entry Requirements (i) First degree in education Arts Subjects (e.g. B.A (Ed.), or B.Ed. (Arts)) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least a lower second class of GPA not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. In order to take Language streams of the MA (Ed.) programme one has to have studied any of the following in the undergraduate degree: Linguistics, Kiswahili, French, English and Literature. For Geography and History streams one has to have studied the particular subjects in the undergraduate degree. OR (ii) BA (Kiswahili), BA (Language Studies), BA (English), BA (Geography and Environmental Studies), BA (French), BA (Literature) and BA (History) with GPA not less than 2.7 plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognised institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination of the PGDE Programme. 1

2 1.3 Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months 1.4 Mode of Delivery: Coursework and Research Project 1.5 Application Fee: Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee as TZS 50,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US$ 50 for Non-Tanzanian applicants Application Fee should be paid through the bank as BANK NAME: NBC BANK Account Name: DUCE Collection Account ACC. NO: Applicable Tuition Fees Tuition Fee for the Master of Arts with Education Programme is TZS 5,500,000 for Tanzanian applicants and US$ 6,150 for Non-Tanzanian applicants. 2. MASTER OF SCIENCE WITH EDUCATION (MSC. ED) (CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY STREAMS) DEGREE PROGRAMME 2.1. Programme Structure The M.Sc. (Ed) is a taught programme comprising of course-work and dissertation and the duration shall be twenty four months (2 years) for full time students. Coursework will run over a period of two semesters of 15 teaching weeks, with final examination at the end of each semester. The second year shall be devoted to research and writing of the dissertation. During the second semester of the first year, students will be required to develop research proposals detailing the theoretical background and methodology, as a preparation for research and dissertation work Entry Requirements (i) First degree in education (e.g. B.Sc. (Ed.) (Sc.)) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least a lower second GPA of not less than 2.7 or its equivalent. In order to take Biology stream of the M.Sc. (Ed.) programme one has to have studied Biology in the undergraduate degree. For Chemistry stream one has to have studied Chemistry in the undergraduate degree. OR 2

3 (ii) B.Sc with a Background in Chemistry or Biology plus a Postgraduate diploma in Education (PGDE) from a recognized institution of higher learning with at least an average pass of B in their final University Examination Duration: The Programme runs for 24 months 2.4. Mode of Delivery: Coursework and Dissertation 2.5. Application Fee: Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of TZS 50,000/= (for Tanzanian applicants) or US $ 50 (for Non-Tanzanian applicants) Applicable Tuition Fee: Tuition Fee for the Master of Science with Education Programme is TZS 4,250,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US $ 6,150 for Non- Tanzanian applicants. This Programme is aimed at those who intend to work or are already working in the education sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession. The programme provides a flexible route to earn teaching profession qualification and allows candidates to combine work and study. The programme leads to certification in the teaching profession equivalent to a degree level qualification in education. 3.2 Entry Qualification A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning. Candidates with science background are highly encouraged to apply. 3.3 Duration: The Programme runs for 12 months (One year) 3.4 Mode of Delivery: Evening 3.5 Applicable Tuition Fees Tuition Fee for the PGDE (Evening) Programme is TZS 2,750,000/= for Tanzanian applicants and US$ 3,075 for Non-Tanzanian applicants. 3

This Programme is aimed at those who intend to work or are already working in the education sector and wish to enhance their career prospects in the teaching profession but due to their work schedules are not able to attend normal class sessions. The programme provides a flexible route to earn teaching profession qualification and allows candidates to combine work and study. The programme leads to certification in the teaching profession equivalent to a degree level qualification in education. 4.2 Entry Requirements A first degree or advanced diploma in any field other than education from a recognised institution of higher learning.
