Upon graduation, you will be able to critically evaluate developments and new applications of information and communication technology systems, and relate them to the roles and uses of IT in different business settings. You will also have an enhanced understanding of system problems and how to choose the right methods and approaches to develop systems. From engaging in primary research for the dissertation and studying relevant literature, you will learn to recognise what constitutes suitable research questions or hypotheses and the appropriate perspectives for analysis. 11 COMPUTING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ENTRY REQUIREMENTS A Bachelor honours degree of 2.2 (second lower class honours) or above in any discipline*. *Notes: 1) Candidates are expected to have some knowledge of computing, either from their first degree or work / voluntary experience. 2) Applications where the degree subject is not in a computing discipline will be forwarded to the home institution for consideration on a case-by-case basis. 3) Assessment of the applicant s computing knowledge will be made through consideration of the topics studied at degree level by the applicant at module level and/or by evidence of work experience in a job that involves the use of computers, e.g. an applicant with a degree in Business Management that includes a module on Digital Marketing (which involves looking at databases, data fusion and data analysis) would be acceptable. Similarly, an applicant with a degree in Biological Sciences that has works in a laboratory situation that involves the use of computers to analyse and present data would also be suitable. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS At least an overall IELTS score of 6.5 with 5.5 in each component; or equivalent, e.g. TOEFL overall score of 90 or above, including a minimum of 17 in Listening and Writing, 18 in Reading and 20 in Speaking; or Candidates holding at least 2.2 from the top-up degree programmes delivered by VTC SHAPE will be considered meeting the English Language proficiency requirements. ASSESSMENT Assessment weightings For compulsory modules (weighted according to credits), the assessment weightings are: Examination (including written and oral presentations) : 25% Coursework (including projects, assignments and dissertation) : 75% Graduation requirement Students must gain 180 credits to graduate with the MSc award. The pass grade of examination is 50%. The assessment arrangements are as follows: All the assessments including dissertation are set by the Hong Kong teaching staff. All the assessments including dissertation are marked by Hong Kong teaching staff. 10% of marked assessments including dissertation (subject to a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12 per cohort) are moderated by home teaching staff. The assessment results and degree awards are approved by the University s Field Board and Award Board. The programme also aims to extend students knowledge by introducing current topics related to Digital Media. It addresses recent technology developments and anticipates emerging industry needs that will be essential in the changing technological, business, and social environment. In particular, this programme aims to: provide skills in the design and implementation of digital media and computer games, including an understanding of the mathematical and technological principles required, as well as an exploration of the creative potential presented within the development of media for web platforms, and the cultural and technological contexts out of which they arise; provide practical skills in web development and design and deployment of rich interactive media; develop students ability to make efficient, innovative and robust contributions to companies engaged in the development of products for web platforms and related digital media; and develop students understanding of the importance and mechanisms of project management, and associated tools, within computing, with particular reference to the development of digital media and the web. 16 Financial Assistance The following financial assistance is available to students undertaking SHAPE top-up degree programmes. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE SCHEME FOR POST-SECONDARY STUDENTS (FASP) (for designated full-time locally-accredited degree programmes only) The FASP, which is administered by Student Finance Office (SFO) under the Working Family and Student Financial Assistance Agency (WFSFAA), provides means-tested financial assistance to needy full-time students pursuing locally-accredited, self-financing post-secondary education programmes at the level of associate degree, higher diploma or degree. SHAPE students pursuing the designated full-time locally-accredited degree programmes at SHAPE are eligible for assistance under the scheme. Financial assistance is provided in the form of grant and/or loan. The grant is to cover tuition fees and academic expenses. The loan is for living expenses.
